Shamrocks sweep awards
10 September 2006 - Tricia Brown is playing for the Australian Wallaroos in the womens rugby world cup in Canada right now, but that didnt stop her winning the Queensland Gaelic Football ladies best and fairest award in Brisbane over the weekend. Brown was the outstanding performer for the western suburbs Shamrocks club this year, to win the 2006 Queensland ladies award to add to her Shamrocks and Australasian best and fairest trophies won in previous seasons. The Shamrocks club was also honored with the Queensland mens best and fairest award going to vice captain Matt Mayo. Shamrocks captain David OMalley made it a Queensland mens double for his team by winning the most consistent award. The 23rd annual Shamrocks annual awards presentations is next month at the Indooroopilly Pin n Whistle, and Brown, Mayo and OMalley are tipped to be among the leading contenders. In the Championship finals played over the weekend, Souths won the mens final against John Mitchels by one-point thanks to a goal in the closing moments, making it three Championship titles in six years. Harps won its third consecutive ladies Championship when it beat Souths.

09 September 2006 - Shamrocks Tricia Brown and her Australian women's Rugby team, the Wallaroos, have been defeated 10-6 by the USA in their final Pool Match at the 2006 Women's Rugby World Cup in Canada today. The result means the Brown and the Wallaroos will not qualify for the Semi Finals and will now battle it out in the classification playoffs to begin on Wednesday. The Wallaroos best chance came on the verge of half time when winger Tricia Brown was inches away from scoring in the corner only to be tackled into touch by some desperate USA cover-defence. Brown was substituted shortly after half-time in the 41st minute. Most of the team is new to Test match Rugby and we are playing seasoned international teams. I am confident that we will learn from our experiences today and respond well in our next game, the Wallaroos head Coach Steve Hamson said. Brown has now played three rugby international matches for Australia all in this world cup, scoring a hat-trick of tries on debut. She is the reigning best & fairest player for Brisbanes Shamrocks Gaelic football club, two-time Australasian All-star, a past Australasian best & fairest, a Gaelic football world cup winner, and has also represented Australia in cricket. The Wallaroos next match in the rugby world cup is the 6th versus 7th playoff on Wednesday, co-incidentally again playing the USA. Fathers day no reason to party
03 September 2006 - John Collins celebrated his first Fathers Day following the birth of a son, but his Shamrocks Gaelic football team wasnt rejoicing after stumbling in its Queensland Championship semi final at Willawong over the weekend. Brisbanes western suburbs Shamrocks failed to reach a second consecutive championship final when they lost 1-10-13 to Souths 2-12-18. Collins, exuberant about the safe arrival of 10lb 8oz Aden Ruari Collins on Saturday, played strongly in defence on Sunday hoping for a chance to avenge last years one-point championship final loss, but Souths proved too strong. Goal keeper Dean Mosch was best for Shamrocks, with Matt Walsh outstanding in both defence and attack, as was Cameron Carney. Wayne Gallagher led the scoring with 1-1 while Carney added to his team-leading tally for the season with 0-4. Despite the team bowing out of the championship a week early, Shamrocks Ciaran Conlon is still expected to celebrate next week when he too is expecting the birth of his first child. Shamrocks next big event is its annual awards at Indooroopillys Pig N Whistle next month, when some surprise recipients can be expected. Details will be published on this website closer to the date. Tricia debuts with a hat-trick
01 September 2006 - The Australian Women's Rugby team with the Shamrocks Tricia Brown playing a starring role - has scored a convincing 68-12 victory over South Africa on the opening day of the 2006 World Cup in Canada this morning. In windy conditions in Edmonton, the Wallaroos ran in 10 tries to record the largest winning margin in their 12-year history. On a day of records, Brown scored a hat-trick of tries in her first match for Australia, to already become the fifth highest try scorer in Wallaroo history. Australia next play France on Tuesday morning Brisbane-time. Browns stunning Gaelic football career includes being the reigning Shamrocks ladies Best & Fairest award winner, a past Australasian Best & Fairest winner, two-time Australasian All-star, and Gaelic football World Cup winner last year.
28 August 2006 - Shamrocks play for a place in the senior mens Gaelic Football Queensland Championship final when they face Souths in the semi final at Willawong this weekend. The western suburbs outfit lost to an in-form Souths team in their previous encounter. But Shamrocks still remember their heart-breaking one-point loss in last years Championship final, so will desperately want a chance to redeem themselves. The semi final this Sunday starts at 4pm at Gaelic Park, Bowhill Road, Willawong. Defending champions John Mitchels play Easts Celts at 1:00pm in the other semi final. Tricia World Cup bound (again)
25 August 2006 - This time last year, Shamrocks Tricia Brown was preparing for the Gaelic Football World Cup in Ireland, but this week she said farewell to Brisbanes western suburbs and flew to Canada to compete in the Womens Rugby World Cup. Brown is amongst seven members of the Queensland Women's Rugby team that won the Australian national championship earlier this year, who are now in the 26-member touring squad of the Australian Womens Rugby team - the Wallaroos. The reigning Shamrocks ladies best and fairest player has represented Australia in three sports Gaelic football, cricket, and now rugby. The Wallaroos play South Africa in their opening match of the cup this week on 31 August, followed by France and USA amongst the pool matches. Australia finished 5th in both of the previous womens rugby world cups. In the Gaelic football last year, Browns Australasian team won the World Cup with a perfect 7-0 win-loss record including wins over Canada, Britain, North America. Brown plays her Gaelic football with Brisbane western suburbs Shamrocks club, and her rugby with the University of Queensland. Her Gaelic football record is impressive after playing the sport for just three years: Australasian Best & Fairest (2004), Two-time Australasian All-star (2004, 2005), Queensland Championship (2004) and Australasian Championship (2004) - both coached by Shamrocks Jacqueline Peacock Shamrocks Best & Fairest (2005), World Cup champions (2005).
