Carney scores a brilliant late goal
23 July 2006 - Cameron Carneys late goal cut the deficit to a solitary point but wasnt enough for Shamrocks to beat John Mitchels in their Queensland Gaelic Football League match at Willawong over the weekend. The two-time Australasian minors best and fairest scored the brilliant goal running from half way and leaving three Mitchels defenders in his wake, to give his team a chance to grab victory with minutes remaining. But a subsequent penalty decided the contest with Mitchels winning 2-10-16 to 1-7-10 for their third consecutive success over their western suburbs rivals, but the signs were good for Shamrocks. Matt Mayo was outstanding under the high ball in midfield, Carney cleaning up in defence and running forward, John Dodrill solid in defence, and Dean Mosch with instinctive saves in goal. It was an unusual match in which Shamrocks had players sent off, but despite a numerical disadvantage in a game that was allowed to flow a little too much, still only went down by four scoring shots after a wiff of victory. Two of Shamrocks junior products led the scoring, Carney scoring 1-2 and Justin Mosch 0-2. In ladies football, Shamrocks went down bravely to runaway league leaders Harps 3-15-24 to 3-4-13.

16 July 2006 - Shamrocks reigning best and fairest ladies player Trish Brown (pictured) scored what may prove goal of the season, but it was not enough as her western suburbs team lost to second-placed Souths in the Queensland Gaelic Football League at Willawong over the weekend. Browns length of the field run through half the Souths team to bury the ball in the back of the net hushed the crowd with its power, as Shamrocks shared the early going. But Souths showed high caliber goal scoring of its own to regain dominance and win 5-7-22 to 1-4-7, despite being kept goalless in the second half. Brown, a two-time Australasian All-star, was best for Shamrocks scoring 1-1, supported by Bronwyn Bassett at both ends of the ground, fullback Kitty Kendall, and Tooa in goals. Shamrocks ladies remain in fourth place and play leaders Harps this Sunday. In mens football, Shamrocks Green play John Mitchells with the winner to assume outright lead in the league standings. Waterfords win is crystal clear
10 July 2006 - The contribution of County Waterford in Ireland was crystal-clear in the ladies Queensland Gaelic Football League over the weekend, with two guest players helping Brisbanes western suburbs Shamrocks to a thrilling win. Mags OBrien (on right in picture) and Ashley Tyrrell both holidaying from Waterford played crucial roles in their debut games as Shamrocks snapped a three-game losing streak to beat John Mitchels by a solitary point. OBrien a county champion in Camogie, the womens version of the Irish sport of hurling was solid in midfield, while Tyrrell filled the wing forward position in her first-ever game of gaelic football. OBrien is a senior Waterford county representative in Camogie, and won three consecutive Waterford Championships with the Butlerstown club in 2002-2003-2004. Her brother Owen OBrien, also from the Butlerstown club, played with Shamrocks back in 2001, grabbing headlines with a match-clinching goal in his debut game, and winning the 2001 Queensland hurling long-puck title. Shamrocks ladies win a thriller
09 July 2006 - Shamrocks held on for a thrilling one-point win over John Mitchels in the ladies Queensland Gaelic Football League at Willawong over the weekend. The western suburbs Shamrocks won 3-6-15 to 2-8-14 after Mitchels scored a goal in the final minute to close to within a point, but Shamrocks maintained composure to prevent Mitchels from recording back-to-back wins for the first time this season. Shamrocks retained fourth place ahead of fifth-placed Mitchels, and ended a three-game losing streak, thanks to a best-on-ground performance by midfielder Kirby Short, supported by defenders Bronwyn Bassett and Kitty Kendall. Megan Spicer led the scorers with two goals, with other scorers Lynda Tadnai 1-1, Renee Moynihan 0-4, and Kyla Johnston 0-1. The Shamrock ladies play second-placed Souths this week. In mens gaelic football, Harps recorded the upset of the decade by recording its first win over a Shamrocks senior mens team in nine years. Harps 2-10-16 beat Shamrocks Green 0-14-14 to end an eight game losing streak to the western suburbs outfit, the last victory coming way back in 1997 when Harps were defending Championship winners. Having been upset by the fifth-placed Harps, Shamrocks now lose the outright lead in the Queensland League for the first time this season, falling into a tie for first place with John Mitchels. The result by Harps was an amazing reversal after losing to Shamrocks by an all-time record 48-points back in April. This week Shamrocks Green play Shamrocks White, which lost to Easts Celts over the weekend.
