Angie and Shelly win County League

10 Oct 2004 - Former Shamrocks Shelly Matcham and Angie Doyle (pictured) have won yet another honour with a League title in Ireland with Royal Gaels LGFC of County Meath.

The Royal Gaels club was founded in 1995 � just two seasons before Shamrocks ladies � and represents the areas of Drumree and Dunshaughlin in County Meath. There are now 31 ladies clubs in the county.

Angie and Shelly joined Royal Gaels this year, but the club missed the chance to move up to Intermediate ranking by losing the Meath Junior A championship final in August.

Gaels atoned for that disappointment, however, with a thrilling victory in the County Meath Division 2 final of the All-County League eight weeks later.

The Division 2 League Final was played in Dunsany, County Meath. Beaten Junior Championship Finalists, Royal Gaels, faced Donaghmore Ashbourne, determined to atone for the disappointment of the defeat to Na Fianna.

The work rate shown by the Royal Gaels was immense, particularly the midfield pairing of Angie Doyle and Shelly Matcham, who supported both defence and attack all day. Despite Donaghmore chipping away at the lead, the Gaels held out for a 1 point victory, 1-11 to 1-10.

Back home while with Shamrocks in Queensland, Angie has won a Shamrocks Best & Fairest, two Australasian Best & Fairest, three Australasian All-star medals, and two World Cup Championships. Shelly has also won an Australasian All-star medal, a World Cup Championship, and was a leading contender for the Australasian Best & Fairest. Both Angie and Shelly were part of the Shamrocks� 2001 Queensland Championship victory.
