More teams for Queensland League

18 January 2003 - Brisbanes Shamrocks Gaelic football club is expecting to play in a far bigger Queensland competition this year with new clubs emerging across south east Queensland.

Two new clubs and four new teams, including Ipswich, raise the Queensland Gaelic Football League to eight clubs and 20 teams if the expected expansion goes ahead.

The Shamrocks club drawing players from across Brisbanes western suburbs including The Gap, Bardon, Toowong, St Lucia, Indooroopilly, Kenmore, Chapel Hill, Brookfield, Jindalee, Forest Lake and elsewhere was a founding club of the Queensland Gaelic football association in 1984.

Shamrocks are recruiting new players for all mens and womens teams now.

Positions are ready now for anyone aged 15 to 50 years. Those interested should call David Duguid on 0421 787 720 or click here to register your interest on-line.

Marshall the treasurer after a decade of hollering

21 December 2002 - Shamrocks Gaelic Football Club are celebrating the start of a new year after promoting one of its longest serving members to the executive for the first time, at its annual general meeting at Irish OHanlons this month.

Kenmores James Marshall, a member of the western suburbs club since joining as a 15-year-old in 1992, was elected to the executive position of treasurer after serving as club registrar for the last two years.

Marshall, 25, a manufacturing engineer with Lockwood at Sherwood, has played continuously with Shamrocks for the past decade, and has represented Queensland minors at the Australasian Games.

In other election news, David Duguid is president for a second year, and Matt Walsh was voted both vice-president and secretary.

Kate McNicol has been elected to the general committee for the first time, while long-standing members Kirsten Geary and Nicholas Carpenter continue in their role.

In player transfer news, a two-time senior mens best and fairest award winner and Queensland representative, David Shakovskoy, will not play for Shamrocks for at least the coming season after accepting a position in Dubai. Another loss will be former Australasian minor champion and club award winner, David Gall, who has accepted a position in Canberra.

The club is searching for new players for the 2003 season now, for training that starts on March 4. Call David Duguid on 0421 787 720 or click here to register your interest on-line.

Year ends with Australasian and World Cup wins

6 December 2002 - The Worlds most sort-after trophies are in the keeping of players from the Shamrocks Gaelic Football Club as the western suburbs club celebrates another record-breaking year.

Angie Doyle and the World Cup in Shamrocks colours Shamrocks player Angie Doyle (pictured) was vice-captain of the Australasian team it also included Shamrocks team mate Natalie Hughes which won the World Cup in Ireland in September for the second-consecutive time.

Doyle then won her second-consecutive Australasian best-and-fairest award as Queensland won the ladies Australasian Championship in New Zealand in October for the first time.

That historic Queensland squad contained seven Shamrocks members, including Shelly Matcham, Patty Preece, Bronwyn Bassett, Emily Sangster, and the coach Glen Carpenter.

Doyle, Matcham and Preece were all named in the Australasian all-star team, Doyle for the third time.

Shamrocks ladies and mens teams are recruiting new players now for the 2003 season.
