Shamrocks clean sweep over Easts

29 July 2002 - Shamrocks Gaelic football club achieved its first clean sweep in 12 months with three wins from three matches against East Celts at Willawong over the weekend.

David "Shaq" ShakovskoyThe 29-point victory by the Shamrocks senior mens was their biggest winning margin in 15 months, as Brad Kennedy scored a personal total of 2 goals 8 points to be just a solitary point away from the club record.

Shamrocks won 5-16-31 to 0-2-2 led by best-on-ground David Shakovskoy (pictured) with 2-3 in his first match at full forward, after winning the club best and fairest award at full back last year.

John Collins and David Duguid were outstanding at wing back, as the western suburbs club remain safe in second place.

The Shamrocks mens reserves played their best match so far this season to demolish first-placed Easts 4-3-15 to 0-3-3.

Harold Peacock equalled his own team record with two goals in the first half, and then Dan Pollard also equalled the mark with two goals in the second, as Easts fall from first to second, and Shamrock move up to fourth.

Sam Porter was outstanding at full back, James Marshall good at corner back, and Brendan Scandrett tireless in midfield, as Shamrocks reserves kept their opponents goalless for only the second time this year.

Shamrocks ladies bounced back to winning form with a 3-17-26 to 2-2-8 win over Easts. The 17 points was their best points return this year.

Australasian all star Renee Moynihan - playing in her first match after two months out through injury - scored 1-7 to be just one point shy of equalling a club record.

Local Bulletin highlights World Cup

25 July 2002 - Brisbane's western suburbs magazine The Local Bulletin highlighted Shamrocks' World Cup connection with a photo shoot at major sponsor Irish O'Hanlon's this week.

The Local Bulletin photographs the World CupEditor Barry Searle caught up with Shamrocks' World Cup champions Jacqueline Peacock and Angie Doyle (pictured) at Irish O'Hanlon's for different reasons.

Jacqueline received the tribute after retiring from Shamrocks this season in the unique position of being on top of Gaelic football at every level.

This includes reigning World champion, reigning Queensland champion, and with three consecutive Australasian all-star medals to her credit. Jacqueline was selected in Australasia's World Cup team for this year but retired from football to stay at home with her young family.

Australasia won the ladies Gaelic football World Cup in 2000 for the first time, beating North America in the final by a solitary point.

The Local Bulletin is expected to publish the tribute photograph in its next edition out soon.

Year of firsts continues - for the wrong reasons

24 July 2002 - Shamrocks ladies lost to Sarsfields over the weekend for the first time ever, just ten months after Shamrocks won their historic first Queensland ladies championship. It was also Sarsfields' fist win of the 2002 season.

The five point win by Sarsfields - 4-7-19 to 2-9-15 - snapped a 24-game losing streak against Shamrocks that stretches back to the inception of ladies football in Queensland in 1997.

The closest Sarsfields has previously got to the defending Queensland champions was a 3-pont loss back in August 1998. In 19 previous matches since the full league competition started that year, Shamrocks had boasted a 607-57 scoring advantage.

Looking at the bigger picture for this season, the result denies Shamrocks a tie for second place, dropping them to fourth, and possibly denying them the opportunity to play off for the GAA Trophy.
