On a more personal note...

IMy name is Suzanne Haley.  I am a third grade teacher at Cowan Elementary School in the Austin Independent School District.  This is my second year at Cowan. The students, parents and staff make this school an extrodinary place to work and learn.

We have an amazing team of teachers in third grade, Mrs. Simmons, Mrs. Parkinson, and Mrs. Muniz. This year, Mrs. Santana and I are departmentalizing. Mrs.Santana will be teaching language arts and social studies to both classes and writing to her homerooom. I will be teaching science and math to both classes and writing to my homeroom.

I have lived in a number of places. I was born in Washington State, moved to Connecticut and then finally settled in California. I graduated from California State University, Chico with a BA in Liberal Studies. I attended graduate school at Chico and earned my elementary teaching certificate. I taught for a year in Hesperia, CA. I moved to Arlington, VA and taught second grade for one year. The next stop was Rhode Island and a fifth grade class in South Kingstown.

I left teaching for a while to start a family. I returned to work part time at the local YMCA. Part time quickly turned to overtime when I was hired as th Family Program Director for the Newport County YMCA.  It was a fun job, but it took a lot away from my own family, Brian, my husband, Nicole, 15 and Chris, 12.

After eleven very cold and snowy winters, we were ready to move back to a warmer climate. We moved to Texas and I taught third grade in Del Valle. After two years of commuting from Dripping Springs to Hornsby, I packed up my classroom and moved to Dawson Elementary in AISD. I taught language arts and social studies to some fabulous fifth graders. But, alas, it was again time for me to pack up my belongings and move on down the road to Cowan - Where I plan on staying a long, long time!
