Course Objective:

You should be able to:
1. know the regulatory aspects of solid waste management in Thailand.
2. know the relationship of resource recovery to the solid waste management system.
3. identify the characteristics involved in the solid waste.
4. know the physical, chemical and biological transformations of solid waste.
5. know the generation and collection of solid wastes from an engineering perspective.
6. understand the Landfill regulations, siting, design, operation, closure and leachate control.
7. Discuss the alternatives for solid waste management such as composting, incineration and recycling.
8. state the principles and procedures of landfill design, operation and management.
9. calculate the financing and cost accounting of solid waste operation/design.
10. understand the resource conservation and recovery.
 
 

Grading Policy

Project 25%
Homework 15%
2 Exams (20 each) 40 %
Final Exam 20%

Grading Criteria A: 90-100 B: 80-89 C: 70-19 D: 60-69 F: <59

Homework: Homework will be assigned and submitted on-line. A hard copy of your work may be submitted one day after the on-line due date for partial credit. Students are encouraged to work together on these homeworks but mastery of the material is a personal responsibility.

Quizzes: Weekly on-line quizzes will be placed on the Class Web site. These quizzes must be completed by Tuesday at noon. The quizzes will have a specified time limit and will cover the on-line lesson materials. It is expected that the results of these quizzes will represent an individual effort.

Student Responsibility: Students are expected to attend all scheduled class periods, any work (test or projects) that is not your own will result in a "F" for the course.
