The Story of Shalara

Hi my name is Morgan Haney

Growing up with dogs, mainly mix breeds and rescues, I found my passion.

Living in a single parent home, my mother supported my every move when it came to my dogs, even the ones found on the side of the road. Together we nursed them back to health, found them great homes, and they lived happily ever after.

One of those was a puppy. We found her, nursed her back to health, trained her, loved her and kept her. We named her JP (Jewel's Precious). After her early, unexpected death, I knew that I wanted a breed that had her exact temperament, precious forever puppy face, but more hair. It didn't take long to find English Springer Spaniels.

My first springer was Johnny's King Topher Grace, from Johnson's field bred kennel in Maysville, NC. He couldn't replace JP, just help me finish what she started. Topher and I did many rescue events for the English Springer Rescue of America, started our flyball team - the Carolina Panters, started in agility and Frisbee and made our mark in Charlotte, NC. With the Carolina Traveler TV show taping the Skyhoundz event, Topher sure did make a scene! He let the camera man know who was boss and then went on to the grand finale, who needed that middle part anyway! After the move down to GA we did some rescue events for Claxton County Humane Society where we made the front page.

After the move I began looking for a show quality Springer after falling in love wih a male, Streamline's Putn' on the Ritz! I met him once, saw him twice, fell in love a third time. At the 2003 Atlanta show I was walking around waiting on the match and fell into the arms of his breeder, Renee Holt - Streamline ESS, when she offered a puppy from Walker's sister, Lucy. From the second I saw him I knew that is who I wanted! With pedigree, attitude, and looks, I knew there was some serious thinking. Two weeks later I made the haul to Chatanooga, TN to pick up "the Slamster"!

After a move to Jacksonville, FL, Sam is spending some time with his breeder, Renee, where he celebrated his one year birthday. Topher fell in love with a family who fell in love with him in the great city of Atlanta. After serious thought, I knew Topher would be happier with a job, and a full time mom.

Now Shalara dwells in Jacksonville, FL with just Sam and me. We hope to grow again, but not for a while. Until that time comes, I will be supporting Springer Rescue with Sam, the beauty queen.

Special Thanks To my Mentor
