Two Young Women...One Powerful Combination...Sharing The Spirit

Simone Stacey and Naomi Wenitong are the duo behind the successful debut single Stop Calling Me. The two met are the writing brains behind Shakaya's massive hits. The girls from Cairns share a common ancestry with a mixture of Aboriginal, Vanuatu and White Australian blood within them. The girls first met at an ATSIC (Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Commision) Music course two years ago where them and two other girls wrote a song together as apart of the course. After writing up material for themselves, they were supported by some local radio stationbs with their music and eventually were performing for the big bosses at Sony Music where they now have a three album record deal. From there, the girls were put into Popstar Bootcamp in the states where they had vocal training and dance lessons.
In January 2002, Australian radio was introduced to the duo's highly addictive tune know as Stop Calling Me and soon was a radio hit across Australia giving the girls high exposure. In February the single was released into music stores and debuted at #39. From there, it creeped up the charts and within six weeks, the single was in the top ten where it peeked at #5 and went platinum. The girls then went on from their to support major acts like Destiny's Child, Bardot and Human Nature in their concerts around Australia and New Zealand. The girls now sit comfortably with their new career as artists on the difficult Australian music industry. With their latest single Sublime hitting the shops, the girls are promoting their music all over the country and have been doing the regional tours.
