Abstract This paper presents an exploratory study, which examines the concept of service quality in educational setting with data collected from 223 students of graduate degree programs. Faculty and administrative staff through their personal attention to students, also influence quality. Moreover, awareness about scheme of study, physical layout of the institute and availability of facilities to the students are also important contributing factors of quality service. Explains measures for managing quality and achieving students’ satisfaction. Suggests management in the formulation of strategies to achieve excellence in education.

13. Title: Educational Leadership as a Concept: Changing to Cultural Manifestation
Abstract Whether we win or lose it depends, in large part, on leadership. There is emerging evidence that leadership is an indispensable element in the process of initiating, sustaining and development of organizations, such leadership is of particular importance to schools. For educational leaders to symbolize a success within their schools they require a thorough understanding of leadership in a generic sense and theoretical basis of approaches to educational leadership. Describes, though managerialism and behaviorism are essential for schools but they are insufficient for higher order leadership. In an effort to contribute to educational leadership, considers the current approach of cultural leadership as a values-added philosophy for the development of collegiality in schools. Explains how cultural leadership is being identified increasingly as a viable approach of social influence and artifact of rightness, a core concern of school leadership. Concludes that the individuals manifest social and institutional norms. The behaviors those are modeled by the leaders and the led profoundly shape the culture and practices of the organization.

Major issues relating to teaching methodologies in terms of research question were addressed. This study was carried out with forty schools. Twenty modern and twenty indigenous schools were selected through purposive sampling. In order to observe imparting of teaching, Classroom Teaching Observation Schedule (CTOS) was used by the observers. Data was analysed through frequency and its conversion into percentages. The students from respective schools perceived variety of teaching methods. The research instrument Pupil’s Perception of Teaching (PPT) was administered for measuring students’ perception. The research highlighted the similarities and differences in teaching practices across modern and indigenous schools settings. Both quantitative and qualitative methodologies were employed to analyze the data. An integrated model of instruction was developed and its validation was sought through consultation with the panel of experts. The major conclusions derived from evidences of this research indicate that classroom interaction and management of classroom in modern classrooms seem to be more effective as compared to indigenous classrooms. The indigenous classroom teachers are more affectionate and kind. This study also reveals that teachers from indigenous schools have competitive edge on competency of teaching than the modern schoolteachers. Acceptance This doctoral degree dissertation was accepted on October 14, 1995 by the faculty of Institute of Education and Research, University of the Punjab, Quaid-e-Azam Campus, Lahore, Pakistan, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Education. Abstract This study sought to establish relationship among secondary school heads' leadership behaviors, their attributes, situational context, and school heads' leadership effectiveness in relation to accomplish goals of secondary education desired in National Education Policies of Pakistan. Personal and situational factors such as task-oriented behavior, relations-oriented behavior, age, management experience, professional training, management courses, school location, students' enrollment, staff strength, students' performance, performance distribution, and physical environment were analyzed through twenty-six hypotheses to assess their contribution in explaining school heads' leadership effectiveness. Using sample survey through mailed instruments for ex-post-facto research, data regarding attributes and situational factors were collected from 121 secondary school heads by sending them Demographic Variables Information Proforma (DVIP). Management Behavior Dimensions Questionnaire (MBDQ) and School Management Effectiveness Questionnaire (SMEQ) were administered to 482 secondary school teachers to obtain perception about their school heads' leadership behaviors and effectiveness. Parametric statistical techniques were used to analyze the data. The key conclusions based on descriptive and statistical evidences of this study indicate that school heads emphasize task and place less emphasis on relationship. A high level of relations-orientation than the task-orientation on the part of school heads affects students’ academic outcome in favorable direction. The veteran school heads show noncommittal, they stand low on both the task and relations-oriented behaviors. Resultantly, prove themselves ineffective school heads. In addition, this study describes that professional qualification and training in management are more supportive of relations-oriented behavior than their support of task-oriented behavior.

4. Title: Stresses Experienced by School Teachers Involved in Adult Learning
Abstract Adult learners are an increasingly important segment of the population. They perceive education as an ongoing process and there is a demand for appropriate learning situations for them. The adult brings to the learning situation a diversity of experiences on which to build and assimilate new knowledge. The evidences of this study reveal that the adult's world is filled with responsibilities incurred by work, family and friends. Because these factors are competing with education, the individual is faced with the dilemma of being a worker and parent/student. Those in teaching profession encounter many stresses, which are physically demanding and emotionally taxing. Moreover, personal study and assignment deadlines are other contributing factors to the levels of stress. The semistructured interview was conducted of 92 school teachers who were students of Master level degree program for the session 1993-94 at the Institute of Education and Research, University of the Punjab, Pakistan. Simple percentage technique was used to analyze the data. The unit of analysis was the school teacher who experienced stress as an adult learner.
