II. Meeting the Need
The Medical Expedition to Lingshed in which I plan to serve will take place from July 31, 2002 until Aug  22, 2002. On this expedition, team members will fly into Ladakh, and trek to the small Tibetan village called Lingshed, and provide medical and dental care to the local Tibetan and Ladakhi tribes. Lingshed is located in the Zanskar region of Ladakh at an altitude of 13000 feet. It is inaccessible for most part of the year due to heavy snow accumulations. Team members will trek over five high mountain passes all above 15,000 feet in elevation and set up camp. A five-day medical camp is scheduled to cover Lingshed and villages lying in its vicinity. Logistics for this mission is being coordinated locally by an organization known as the Himalayan Health Exchange. This group is endorsed by Dr. Geelhoed, and more information about the organization may be found on http://www.himalayanhealth.com.
