FAIRIES
On this next few pages , will be something of a different writing style.
We all believe in fairies. Well I do.......the small lights that fly around at night time. Or the ones that dart around in the room, and the only way you know something is there , is, if your cat or dog stares aimlessly at them.
I was talking to a friend about lightening bugs. And how , as a child, I pretended that they were wee faires. I would catch them in a jar , set them on the porch and watch them fly around the jar. Trying to escape. And then in the morning, they would be gone. As a child, I would be totally amazed and always wondered how they were able to unscrew the lid and fly away. I waited every winter, for spring to get here, so I could once again catch the fireflies and hold them prisoner till I fell asleep. My innocence , kept me going for years. Always believing that they were really faires. Even now on a warm night, I will sit on the porch and wait. To see those shimmering lights dart here and there. Sometimes seeing two come together to make a larger light.....but soon they part and become two lights again. I moved to the country, where I really got a first hand look at the wee ones. Not being scared to roam the woods at night time. Trying to catch a glimpse of some sort of night creature. Or just walking , and being one with every thing that was around me. On this paritcular night, the moon was full and shining so brightly. You didn't even have to use a flashlight. I had walked down this particular path , that would lead me deeply into a wooded area. Now this path went all away around the lake  and you could see the lake through the trees. The moon shimmered off the water, almost like the lake was a mirror. Every few minutes a fish would come up to the top of the water to partake in the bugs that flew closey to the top of the water. When they did this, the water would move in small ripples, lending an effect of the moon rippling . I stood there for some time watching this happen over and over again. Totally engrossed in the simple pleasure of raw and untouch nature. After a time, I walked once again down this path , that was now worn from my nightly walks. From infront of me came a noise. Making me freeze where I stood. Out of the trees came a stag. He walked without fear to the waters edge and drank. The moon shining down on him. He drank for a few minutes, then looked up, and turned his head in my direction. My heart was beating fast , and in my mind I gave thanks to Mother Earth for letting me have this privelege to be this close to him. I wanted so bad to reach out and touch him. To feel the smoothness of his skin. He titled his rack back and looked at me, so intensely. I still was not scared. I could actually see, the reflection of the moon in his eyes. He gazed at me for a good 5 minutes, then his head went down and all I could see was his rack. Slowly his head came back up and he turned and walk slowly back into the stand of trees he had come from. So...I had to follow. I race down the path to where  he had gone and looked into the darken trees. Now, at this time, I really didn't care , waht was down there. All I knew , was, that I  HAD to follow him. And I did. Walking bout 200 hundred feet back into this dark stand of trees, I looked around. The tall trees had almost blocked all of the moon out. So, I stood there quietly, which of those that know me, know that is very hard to do. About 25 feet in front of me was a stump . It looked as if it may have been blown down in a storm. From out of that tree stump came a flying light. Seeing this a smile crossed my face. I was so excited. Then another flew out.....and then another one. Till there was a glowing mass of lights flying . They would zoom here and then there. Swirling in and out of each other. I was totally encaptured by what I was seeing. Some would dart out to the side and fly bout 10 feet . And then fly furousily back to the mass of lights. I don't reallly know how long I stood there watching this amazing site. But I do know it was long enough for the moon to move westardly in the sky. Then all at once, they begin , one by one, to dart back into the stump. Till all of them had retreated back to where they came from. At this time, I turned and made my way back to the path which would lead me back to the house. Of course , some would say it was just lightening bugs. But, they weren't. It was the wee faries out and about. Doing whatever faires do.
