The band plays the entire Scenes From A Memory album as well as some favorites spanning several of their past albums. The total length of this entire album spans over three hours! Thats a hell of a lot of music. This is also their first live album to feature Rudess on keys. Synopsis: This amazing concert begins with the performance of the entire Scenes From A Memory album. I wont go in depth into those songs, but Ill just say that some of the tracks sound somewhat similar to the album versions. Despite this, they have some amazing performances of the songs off of the album, my two favorites being The Dance Of Eternity and Home. The Scenes From A Memory performance spans from all of Disc 1 to track 3 of Disc 2. Afterward, the band plays Metropolis, Pt. 1. Dream Theaters performance of Metropolis, Pt. 1 is really good; its even better than the album version. LaBrie plugs the DVD release midway through the song. Its not all bad, though, as he stops talking right before the best part (Before the mist has fallen). Anyway, The Mirror is up next, and it is yet another good performance. Just Let Me Breathe follows up The Mirror. I cant really say much about this one, particularly because Im not too fond of the song. Oh well. Next, Dream Theater covers an excerpt of Acid Rain, a Liquid Tension Experiment song. The band nails the song extremely well--probably because of Liquid Tension Experiment is IN Dream Theater. The songs Caught In A Web and New Millennium are combined into Caught In A New Millennium, and the result fairly good and interesting. I like both songs, but wouldve rather liked to hear the songs played back to back, as opposed to being combined, but what was given was nice. Next, a beautiful performance of Another Day, complete with Jay Beckenstein, who was on the album version, is played. And the amazing Jordan Rudess Keyboard Solo concludes Disc 2. In his solo, he demonstrates how much talent he has in his two hands. Oh yeah, and he quotes Universal Mind by Liquid Tension Experiment in his solo too. Disc 3 starts off with the A Mind Beside Itself trilogy, with Erotomania leading the way. I really like this performance of Erotomania; its a bit better than the album version. A cool performance of Voices is next, followed by an electric version of The Silent Man. An awesome performance of one of my personal favorites, Learning To Live is the fourth track on Disc 3. The fan favorite A Change Of Seasons, is played as an encorein its entirety. The band is fairly tired by this point, but they still manage to pull of an amazing performance. During The Darkest Of Winters instrumental portion, Petrucci quotes the theme song of The Simpsons, and Rudess plays the end of Universal Mind as well. After the song is over, LaBrie thanks everyone for coming and jokingly says, Sorry about the short set! Highlights: (Favorites from each disc) The Dance of Eternity, Metropolis, Pt. 1, A Change Of Seasons Overall: If youre a Dream Theater fan, you simply have to check out Live Scenes From New York. Its one of their best and longest performances to date.
