9. Special Characters

Accent Marks
Sometime you may need to use a special character in an HTML document, an accent or diacritical mark. The ones that are recognized as known as ISO These special characters are marked in HTML as:
&xxxx;
or it can be written as
&#xxxx;

where xxxx is the code name for the special character, and with #xxxx is the decimal equivalent of the name. Below is a large table listing all of the HTML code used for special chracters. If you can't see them, then your browser/system doesn't accept the ISO character set. Notice in the list,that &nbsp appear not to have a result, well it's result is a white space. There are also © and ® symbols available.
It is of importance that each &xxx tag ends with a semi colon ; as the latest browsers understand this method.

You write the code as it is shown to give you the differing characters, ie &copy gives you ©. It's just like typing in a normal tag, but you don't have to include the < or > tags. An important thing to note is that the code used to implement these characters is Case Sensitive. What this means is that thorn and THORN are two different characters, eg :
&THORN = Þ
&thorn = þ

Just remember this when you are typing in any special commands.
