| Aconite Aconite, also known as monkshood or wolfsbane, has many alkaloids. The most active of these being aconitine. Aconitine, or C34H47NO11 is crystalline, and soluble in aclohol. Through hydrolysis one obtains acetic acid and benzaconine, and going further with the hyrolysis produces aconine. And what makes this little plant so nasty? Well, after taking a large enough dose of it your mouth starts to burn and tingle, then your stomach follows suit. Maybe an hour later, you start to vomit. Your pulse starts to fail, as does breathing. You die from asphyxiation, but are conscious and thinking clearly the whole time. Back |
