What is mental disability? Top
Mental disability is a condition that slows down mental & physical growth. Mentally disabled child is slower than a normal child to walk, eat & talk. All mentally disabled children grow better with training -- the earlier the better.

Is mental disability a disease? Top
No. It is not a disease. A child can be born mentally disabled. A child can be mentally disabled before birth, at the time of birth or after birth. A child can also become mentally disabled because of an accident or a disease.

Is mental disability curable? Top
No, mental disabled cannot be cured. This condition is a result of an irreversible damage to the brain. The child cannot be cured but can be trained to lead up near normal & dignified life.

What is the difference between mental illness & mental disability? Or Is mental disability & mental illness same? Top
No. mentally disabled children are not mental ill. Mental disability is a physical defect caused by injury or damage to the brain where as mental illness is not a physical defect.Mental illness is a disease that can occur at any age even among highly educated people.

Do MR children become normal as they grow older? Top
No. Mentally disabled children are different from other children. Even though they grow older physically they are younger in their minds intensive training can help mentally disabled children to improve their ability to learn & look after themselves.

Can marriage cure mentally disabled persons? Top
No. Marriage only cannot cure mentally disabled persons. It is very difficult for mentally disabled person to look after his/her family

Are all mentally disabled/retarded children similar? Top
No. all MR�s are not similar. There are 5 categories of MR persons. They are boderline , mild, moderate, severe & profound.

How/when can we identified such problem with the child? Top
If a child

  • Is slow to understand and respond.
  • Is clumsy and lethargic.
  • Does not keep up with other children of the same age.
  • Is physically disabled.
  • Can only concentrate for a short time.
  • Looks different especially the child�s face & body.
  • Avoids company.
  • Is irritable and restless.
  • Delaying milestones.

What will happen to the child after their parents? Top
Parents may group together to start and run respite care centers/group homes during the life time. They should also nominate future guardians for their child and can streamline their assets and papers for future.

Can ever an MR persons be rehabilitated? Top
Of course, basic upon the child�s abilities and training any suitable, mentally handicapped person can be rehabilitated for his/her dignified living.

Activities undertaken during the last two years: (2002-2004) Top
•  Counseling: Conducted family counseling to the youth, newly married about the precautions to be taken to prevent the birth of disabled children. Counselling was conducted to the expected mothers about the precautions to be taken to prevent the birth of disabled children. conducted early intervention programmes to the parents of delayed milestone children to conduct training and initiate required therapy to vastly improve the condition from disability. Conducted special education to children from age level 4 to 16 years of all severity levels in primary, secondary and care group classes with professional trainers. Conducted special education and training to children of age group 17 and above in academics, family living, socialization, ability and aptitude based trades in pre-vocational and vocational classes. Service oriented trades like laundry, provision stores, xerox and telephone booth, culinary and house management etc., were selected to train vocational students. Also conducted training cum production of candles, phenyle, cleaning powder, envelopes, garlands and commercial packing and marketed them through open sale counters at rythu bazaars and public centers. The products are also marketed through food world and thrinethra super bazaars.
•  Conducted awareness and educational programmes about mental disability, prevention, early intervention and special education cum training in semi urban and rural areas; mainly aiming the rehabilitation of MR persons.
•  Conducted general medical camps, vaccination camps and health checkup camps for the students, parents and BPL families with the help of I.R.S. and pharmaceutical companies.
•  Conducted educational and entertainment tours, picnic and outings for the children, parents and staff of MANOKRUSHI.
•  Participated in special employees meet, inter school sports and games meet,special olympics etc.,
•  Participated in rallies on world disabled day,mothers day and teachers day.
•  Conducted national days with educational and entertaining programmes.

PAWMENCAP is running and administering project MANOKRUSHI since 1990 to conduct counseling for prevention and early intervention, special education and vocational training to the MR persons and home based training programme in a service area of 12-15 kms. radius. Guided professionally and technically; monitored at all levels of development and through result oriented and beneficial short and long term goals; MANOKRUSHI is imparting disciplined training to the MR persons. Training to achieve self-help, behaviour modification, socialization, physical condition, speech and language, occupational development to the mentally disabled. The trainers and parents are made partners in the targeted development of each child. Out of the 160 beneficiaries trained in the last two years, 60% belong to below poverty line families. MANOKRUSHI is reputed to be the only centre to admit and train severe and profoundly retarded persons along with moderate and borderline. The MR persons were thoroughly trained in all concepts of number, money, weights and measurements, time and social behaviour to gain employment. MANOKRUSHI is a model training centre for special education, vocational training and rehabilitation.

  • Sale proceeds from domestic items made by vocational department.

Income Tax Exemption : Top
Donation to the organization and project were subjected to income tax exemption U/s 80G vide No.1/12A, U/s.80G/26/02-04, upto April 2004. Renewal from 1 st May 2004 to 2007 is awaited.

Operating savings Account at State Bank of India in Humayun Nagar Branch, Hyderabad , A/c.No.55540, transacting approximately Rs.22 lakhs per annum.

Purpose and amount of donation : Top
a) PURPOSE: Functioning since 1990, MANOKRUSHI has accomplished the requirements of all the departments namely furniture, teaching aids & toys, physio, speech, occupational therapy, special education and vocational training. Presently the beneficiaries are being transported at free of cost to and from MANOKRUSHI by hired Auto Rickshaws, bearing heat, dust, rain and cold. The mentally disabled children justifiably need to be transported safely, securedly and comfortably which will be possible by a Bus. The Bus also facilitates comfortable transportation for outings, picnics and awareness and educational programmes and recreational and educative excursions.
b) Amount: cost of 41 standard seating capacity bus: Rs. 8 lakhs. The management committee of the organization supported by parents request the august organization. State Bank of India to sanction a minimum grant of Rs.5 lakhs. to the maximum of Rs.8 lakhs.. If there is an embargo to limit the gracious gesture to any amount less than Rs.8 lakhs, the executive committee will accomplish the balance of money to purchase the bus.
