Chapter 9: Saruman At Large Seven days later. Jonah's mouse trap was still empty; and, even though Jonah had put his foodstuffs way up high, Saruman found them. Then Jonah tried hiding the food...but Saruman still found them. Unanimously, the occupants of this shack agreed that this was one clever mouse. We recieved actual mousetraps to aid us in our battle. It was some sort of glue. Would it be enough to catch Saruman? The mice in Cooper's tent had fallen repeatedly for it. One mouse got stuck in it. Then another mouse got stuck in it. Then those two mice had a fight and one ate the other's head. Then another mouse got stuck in it. Then those two mice had a fight and one died--thankfully, there was no cannibalism with that third mouse. Saruman, however, had escaped his would-be glue prison again and again. Everytime we checked on the trap, we would see mouse hair and, sometimes, mouse droppings. Saruman's days were definitely numbered, but we weren't the ones counting. All in all, seven mice had met their doom with maintenance so far. However, it was not yet time to party, not with Saruman at large. |
