News from the Editor
The writing of this item is probably one of the most difficult tasks that I have ever had to do. To get right to the point, this will be the last Clan Newsletter that I will publish.
I have tried for a year and a half to generate interst in the Clan but have come to the conclusion that there is not sufficient interest to continue on. A few of the "Cousins" are truly intersted in keeping the Shackelton-Shackleton Clan Newsletter and the Family History Program alive. To these few I am deeply grateful for their support and it is to these few I feel that I owe an explanation.
Any family newsletter must be a living newsletter, that is it must primarily contain current news of the family. Clan members have been invited to submit news and pictures with almost no respone. The two pictures that have been received have been printed. Since last (July) newsletter I have received letters from exactly two of the Clan members and most of them from one loyal member. Any newsletter cannot hope to exist with this sparse input! I fully realize that many of you have subscribed tothe Newsletter after being prodded by a close relative and only for that reason.
Also, during the past year I have sent out over fifty letters to "connected" cousins and received exactly four replies. Of the four replies, three have actually participated in the Family History Program, and one inficated that they were not interested (at least they responded), and forty-six were not heard from. (The U.S. Mail may be bad, but not that bad).

Paul goes on to tell as how he will return the money that was collected for the subscriptions. Also included were the names and addresses of the people who were receiving the newsletter.
