I realize that Bernice included many birthdates in her information, but I will not include any dates for those that I do not have a death date for. Karen Sue is the eldest child and daughter of George Lee and Mary Zada (Lyons) Shackelton of Manhattan, Kansas. She is also the first grandchild of Oscar and Bernice (Close) Shackelton.
Karen was awarded a four year scolarship in the Manhattan State University of Agricultural for her scolastic rating in her four year High School. Her average grade for the four years was 1.3+. She is interested in Gemology. Her rock collection has taken first place at the county fair. She plays the piano, organ and flute. Last summer she traveled with a busload of young people of the Centeral Kansas Methodist Congerence to various Missionary projects in the south.
Karen is seventeen years of age. She will graduate Friday, May 25, 1979

Deaths
Cora F. Shackelton, 90 of Galena, died at 9:20p.m. Monday, November 20, 1978 at Oak Hill Hospital in Joplin, MO. She had been a patient at the hospital for one month.
Mrs. Shackelton was born on April 27, 1888 in St. Paul. She had lived in Galena for the past 40 years, moving there from Baxter Springs.
She was a telephone operator for Kansas State Telephone until 1956. She attended the Apistolic Faith Church. She married Charlie Shackelton on February 29, 1910 in Galena. He died August of 1938. She is survived by nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 2p.m. Friday at Hill Crest Cemetery, Galena, with the Rev. Ted Jackson officiating. The family will be at the home of a nice, Pauline Rogers in Galena. The Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena is handling arrangements.
