Article about Lord Shackleton New York Times; 25 May 1977 Lord Shackleton (chariman) of the new Political Honours Scruitiny Committee. Others are, Lord Franks and Lord Carr of Hadley. The system for scrtutinizing the award of political honours is to be tightened after Whitehall;s failure last year to dissuade Sir Harold Wilson from recommending about half the nominees in his Resignation Honour's list to the Queen. The new committee was appointed after Lord Shackleton, Labour leader in the Lords, warned Sir Harold Wilson, against appointing late Lord Brayley to the prrerage in 1973 and to a junior ministerial post at the Ministry of Defence a year later. It is understood that Lord Shackleton and his colleagues will ask the Prime Minister to give them earlier notice of his intention to confer Political honours. Lord Shackleton, Lord Frands and Lord Carr will not be so reticent if presented in future with unsuitable names. They are determined that the honours system should be rescued from the disrepute into which it was plunged by Sir Harold's resignation list.

While most visitors know about the park's hospital, yosemite also provides a jail for those few who each year get afoul of the law. Tucked away in the back of a 50-year-old maintenance building, the National Park Service (MPS) maintains a modern, 1974 jail, which it describes as a 72-hour detention facility capable of confining up to 16 persons.
