| IN MEMORIAN AND THANKSGIVING FOR THE LIFE OF ALBERTA D. SHACKELTON Alberta Dent Shackelton, 81, of 103 Kay St. died Thursday, March 2, 1978 at Tompkins County Hospital after an illness of several months. Mrs. Shackelton was the author of several books on nutrition. Former writer on Food for American Agriculturalist and Former Associate Professor in Nutrition, Douglas College. She received the B.A., M.A. and M. Ed degrees from Cornell University and was a former treasurer of the Cornell Women. She was a member of Omicorn Nu and a former deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Ithaca. Mrs. Shackelton also did graduate study at Johns Hopkins University. Member and former secretary to Board of Trustees of First Presbyterian Church, itaca. member and former president, P.E.O. chapter I, Ithaca. member of the Hospital Auxilliary-Volunteer receptionist at Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Horace E. Shackelton Sr. of Ithaca; a son, Horace E. Shackelton Jr. of Dryden, a daughter Mrs. Mary Shackelton Slade of Ithaca; a granddaughter, Mrs. Lynn Hoskins Brown; and two great-grandsons, Kenneth Brown and Jason Brown, all of Decator, Ga. Several cousins also survive. Services were held in the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Donald Howland officiating. Burial in East Lawn Cemetery. Wagner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Benjamin Shackleton Monument Project: The monument of Benjamin Shackleton (1757-1800) in Union Brick Cemetery of Blairstown, New Jersey was undertaken by the Shackelton families to replace; the monument was crumbling and in bad need of replacement; Contributions were collected and the new Monument was erected after some time. Thank you past Shackelton families for keeping this history alive for us! Corrections from Jonathan Shackleton of Ireland, a student at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio; he is the son of David C.B. Shackleton, the son of John Shackleton.
