Times have changed since the 1970's and this is the Internet afterall! Please email me personally for any dates that appeared in the book or the newsletters. Sorry for any inconvience that this may cause.
This newsletter contained a picture and information of Sir Ernest Shackleton's ship, the Discovery, information about the oil painting of the Shackleton mill and a letter from Harold and Esther Shackelton.
Picture of The Discovery, Sir Ernest Shackleton's ship:
The ship was anchored in the Thames River when Earl and Ruth Shackelton visited England in the Spring of 1976.
According to margery and James Fisher in their book "Shackleton and the Antartic" this boat was used in the Scott's expedition 1901. Shackleton was singned on as Third Lieutenant. His job was to man the sails and manage the store roomof food supplies. He became ill of scurvy and asthma attacks due to poor food rations and over exposure. He was dismissed from the crew and ordered by Scott to return home in the ship Morning on February 28, 1903. This was a great disappointment to Shackleton and perhaps was the reason for the three expeditions of his own to prove to himself that he could endure hardships.
