From Grand Rapids Press, Grand Rapids, Michigan; Wednesday, December 19, 2001 Margaret Elinor Shackleton Margaret Elinor Shackleton, aged 86, of Grandville, went to be with the Lord on December 16, 2001. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Matt and Margaret (Simonich) Kochevar; Volney and Margaret Ella Burnett, who raised her after her parents death; one brother, Frank Kochevar; on sister, Mary Kochevar; half-brother, Jack Jaksa; two brother-in-law, Willard Good and Bert Crotty. Mrs. Shackleton is survived by her husband, Benjamin, of 63 years; children, Ruth Ann (Ronald) Denniston of Owosso, Janet (Virgil) Leatherman of Grandville, Ben (Jan) Shackleton of Oconomowoc, WI; seven grandchildren, Scott (Sara) Leatherman, Lori (Mark) Van Harmelen, Julie (Jim) Williams, Cindi Sopko, Lynda (Christian) Horner, Kelly (Tom) Dorner, Nikki Shackleton; six great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Ian and Amy Leatherman, Trevor Sopko, Noah Horner, Jacob Van Harmelen; two sisters, Rose Good of Charlottesville, VA, Alice Crotty of Cornell, WI; and several nieces and nephews. Margaret owned a plumbing and heating business in Cornell, WI for many years, where she worked as the office manager. In 1987 they moved to Grandville after retirement. Over the years, Margaret was an active member of the Church of God, and later Faith Baptist Church in Cornell, WI, where she taught Sunday School, served as a pianist and organist, sang in a ladies trio, and directed church programs. She also gave piano lessons in her home. After moving to Grandville, Margaret attended Faith United Church of God in Walker, and occasionally took part in the music program. Funeral services will be held Friday 11 a.m. from the Faith United Church of God (3290 Walker NW - Walker, MI 49544), with Pastor Steve McDaniel officiating. Interment Grandville Cemetery. The family will meet with relatives and friends Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. from the Cook Funeral Home-Grandville (west building). Memorial contributions may be made to the Faith United Church of God Music Program. A much loved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Margaret will be deeply missed, she had a great love for her family and the Lord.

Wood, 39, of Menomonie, died as a result of a car accident on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, on Highway 29 in the Town of Green Grove, Clark County. Carol was born April 10, 1960, in Chippewa Falls, and was raised in Cornell. She received her GED from Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire, where she also took Administrative Assistant classes. Carol was an artist of many talents, including music, drawing, painting, doll-making, hat-making and vintage dress-making. She was a prolific writer and was presently employed at the Dunn County News as Lifestyles Editor, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. Carol also enjoyed worshipping in the Nazarene churches in Eau Claire and now in Menomonie. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Survivors included four children, Phillip, Isaac, Elijah and Sienna; her mother Della (Shackleton) Fisk of Menomonie; two brothers, Lon (Dennise) Fiskk of DeForest and Earl (Laura) Fisk of Holcombe; two step-sisters, Karen (Richard) Stewart of Sheldon and Sheila (Randall) LaRose of Cadott; a step-brother-in-law, Alan Jones of Chippewa Falls; her former husband, Terry Wood; maternal grandmother, Jeannette Monica Shackleton of Spring Valley Health Center; nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her step-father, Dale Fisk; maternal grandfather, Cecil Shackleton, and step-sister, Sylvia Jones. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at the Menomonie Alliance Church, with Rev. Ron VanWey officating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in the spring. Visistation was held from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, and at the church an hour before the service on Saturday.

He was born March 30, 1948, in Ladysmith to Perry and Genevieve (Bliven) Shackleton. He lived in holcombe until the age of 14, then moved with his family to Knapp. David married Karen Rundle on July 22, 1967, in Minneapolis, Minn. He worked as a building contractor in the Knapp area. David is survived by his wife, Karen Shackleton of Knapp; two sons and one daughter, David (Teresa) Shackleton, Sam Shackleton and Shayne Shackleton, all of Knapp; two grand children, Luke and Britnee Shackleton; six brothers and three sisters, Robert (Clarice) Shackleton of Knapp, Viola (Earl) Cook of Chippewa Falls, Dora (Bud) Carrell of Cornell, Jan (George) Wolf of Janesville, Ray (Millie) Shackleton of New Auburn, Don Shackleton of Hillsdale, Dick (Lois) Shackleton of Knapp, Stan (Marty) Shackleton of Rice Lake and Dan (Wendy) Shackleton of Dallas; many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Menomonie Alliance Church, with Pastor Kelly Lynnes officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in the Town of Stanton, Dunn County. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and at the church an hour prior to the services on Tuesday.

Shackleton Jeanette Monica Shackleton, age 85, formerly of Cornell, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at Spring Valley Health Care Center in Spring Valley. She was born Sept. 29, 1914, in Chippewa Falls to Della (Brunberg) and John Otis Gangstad. She grew up in Chippewa Falls and the Township of Hallie. She graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1932, then graduated from Eau Claire Normal, and taught at Robert Grade School in rural Holcombe. Monica was married to Cecil Shackleton on June 5, 1938, by Rev. Melvin Miller in Cornell. They resided in the Cornell and Chippewa Falls area. She was a resident of Spring Valley Health Care Center since 1992. She was a member of the Church of God in Cornell and taught Sunday School there for many years. Survivors include six daughters, Della Fisk of Menomonie, Laura (Jesse) Ruby of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, Evelyn Lee of Sandpoint, Idaho, Pearl (Phillip) Velie of Elk Mound, Sarah (LaVerne) Larson of River Falls, and Jeanette Stovner of Richfield, Minn.; one brother, Donald (Pauline) Gangstad of Madison; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Gangstad of Virginia and Maxcyne Gangstad of Arkansas; 18 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Cecil Shackleton on April 13, 1983; her parents; her stepmother, Doris Gangstad; one son, Warren Cecil Shackleton; one sister, Orel Gangstad; two brothers, Robert and Edward Gangstad; and four grandchildren, Carol Wood, Sylvia Fisk Jones, Susan Marie Velie and Joseph Edwin Ruby. Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 2, at the Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel in Chippewa Falls. A nephew, the Rev. Stanley Shackleton, officiated at the service with music and personal reflections given by friends and family members. Interment in the family plot followed at Prairie View Cemetery, Town of Hallie. Pallbearers included Lon Fisk, Earl Fisk, Dale Fisk, Todd Velie, Dick Shackleton and Charles Carrell. |
