Frances Bernice Burgess
Esbon, Kan., resident Frances Bernice (Shackelton) Burgess, 81, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at St. Frances hospital of Wichita in Wichita, Kan.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist and Christian Church in Esbon with the Rev. Laura Fricker officiating. Burial will be in Esbon Cemetery. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today at Melby Mortuary in Mankato, Kan.
Mrs. Burgess was born May 4, 1917 to Frank and Neta (Squire) Shackelton in Esbon. She attended Jewell County schools. On March 15, 1942, she married George W. Burgess in Smith Center, Kan. Her husband died in November 1962.
She was a member of Christian Church in Esbon, Esbon Seniorettes and Esbon American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors are four sons, George Burgess and William Burgess, both of Esbon, Gene Shackelton of Randall, Kan., and Jim Burgess of Salina, Kan.; two daughters, Vickie Suther of Wetmore, Kan., and Mary Poland of Junction City, Kan.; one sister, Marla Raines of Denver; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and one grandchild.

Gene E. Shackelton
RANDALL--Gene E. Shackelton, 65, Randall, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002.
Mr. Shackelton was born Oct. 30, 1936, at Esbon. He was a mechanic in the Army.
Survivors include three brothers, George Burgess and Bill Burgess, both of Esbon, and Jim Burgess of Salina; and two sisters, Vickie Suther of Wetmore and Mary Poland of Chapman.
The sevice was in Esbon Cemetery, Esbon, with miliary rites by United States Army Honor Gurard, Fort Riley.
Melby Mortuary, 402 N. High Street, Mankato 66956, is handling arrangements.

Former Esbon, Kan., resident Gene E. Shackelton, 65, of Randall, Kan., died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kan.
Services were Saturday at Esbon Cemetery at Esbon with the Rev. Thaddeus Hinkle officiating. Military rites were by the U.S. Army Honor Guard of Fort Riley, Kan. Melby Mortuary of Mankato, Kan., was in charge of arrangements.
