Apart from imparting theoretical and practical knowledge of computer science and IT skills, the Department of Computer Science also encourages the students to actively participate in a diverse range of activities aimed at increasing interaction and exposure of students to the industries and also at the same time enhancing the personality of the students.

A number of industry standard projects are assigned to the students. In this regard, the industries located in and around Aligarh, various government offices, NIC, CMC and the like have been very helpful.

 Regular Activities

1. Revision of syllabus: We keep on reviewing and updating our syllabi at the end of every academic session and in this process we involve many experts from industry as well as academia. We fully ensure that these reflect the latest industry perspective and have academic rigour.

2. Department conducts Orientation Programmes and Refresher Courses in "Computer Applications" for the teachers of various universities sponsored by UGC Academic Staff College, Aligarh.

3. Department coordinates and conducts counseling and practical sessions of various courses related to Computer Science and Information Technology offered by IGNOU like CIC, BCA and MCA.

4. Department extends placement assistance to students and helps them getting a birth in the industry/organization for completing 4 to 6 months on the job training which is part of the curriculum. Also the department manages to organize campus/off-campus interviews for the placement/recruitment of the students.

 Promotional Activities

1. The department organizes seminars, workshops and conventions in the area of Computer Science and Information Technology.

2. Department regularly invites Computer Scientists and IT professionals from Industries as well as academia to deliver a lecture on recent trends and technology.

3. Department organizes special training programmes (like summer training/workshop) for students during summer vacation and in the process invites expert IT professionals from industry to provide specialized training to the students on recent tools and technologies.

4. Department extends technical support in organizing Science Exhibition, Science Fair and such promotionl activities.

 Cultural Activities

1. Students of this department participate in CSI Convention/Seminar and various IT competition and festivals. The performance of our students has been marvelous and noteworthy. Our students have won several prizes and brought honour to AMU. The team of Department of Computer Science have been participating in several National Level IT competitions and festivals, which comprises of several technical events like overnight Software Development, Web Engineering, System Design, Paper Presentation, Logical and Programming Ability Test etc. The CSI student branch of the department got the best regional student chapter (Northern Region) Award in 1992.

2. On the occasion of Sir Syed Day, department organizes a week long IT Festival known as "SIR SYED IT WEEK" every year which comprises of several technical and non-technical event. These activities give the students an opportunity and platform to exhibit their skills and prove their worth. Also Fresher-cum-Farewell Party and an intra-department Cricket Tournament are also organized by the students as an extra curricular activities.
