Groundhog to Roaring Fork Shelter |
| The trail was smooth packed
with dirt covered with leaves, pine needles, or soft mud from the
previous night's storm. A beautiful sunny morning with great
views of the valley below. I saw blueberry bushes growing on
the steep mountain sides which was the first I'd seen. |
| What happened to the sun?
When I got to Max Patch Summit 4,629', I thought I would be able to
take some great pictures - wrong! I took pictures from near
the top. When I got to the summit the wind was so strong
that it was blowing me sideways, I turned around and glanced into
the valley seeing the rain moving through. I pulled up my rain
hat and before I could start walking again the ice started pelting
my hat and face. Oh, no, another hail storm! |
|
Reached Roaring Fork Shelter after another 6 miles of
hiking about 5:30pm. Temperature was below 32 degrees. A very cold
night for sleeping in a breezy shelter. |
