Mount Whitney

Mount Whitney is one of the most sought after summits in America and is universally famous as the highest mountain in the United States
outside of Alaska, as well as the highest point in California and the Sierra Nevada. Few major peaks have a more pronounced Jekyll-and-Hyde personality; the
east face features sheer cliffs plunging thousands of feet down to the Owens Valley, while the west side provides a much more gentle aspect. The summit area
is very flat and broad, one of the more anticlimactic summits of a famous peak anywhere.
The Route
Our Route up to the Summit will lead us along the North Fork of Lone Pine Creek to our base camp near Iceberg Lake (elevation 12,240 feet).
The next day we will make our summit bid by attempting the eastern mountaineers route. We will asend to a notch on the north side of the summit and with the
air getting thiner the final 400 feet to the summit steepens as you climb over rocks to reach the summit at an elevation of 14,497 feet. "The Roof of
America"
