The California AIDS Ride is one of the largest single-event AIDS & HIV fundraisers in the world. Each year, since 1994, men and women join together as riders and crew in a moving statement to raise awareness and funds for AIDS and HIV services in San Francisco and Los Angeles. The seven-day ride, totalling almost 600 miles, goes from San Francisco to Los Angeles. It's an awesome physical and emotional challenge.
Im riding because the AIDS crisis in America is far from over. Im riding to raise consciousness and funds. Im riding because there is no cure for AIDS. Im riding because Im fortunate enough to be in good health and be able to help others in need. Im riding for those I know, some of whom are no longer with us, whove been affected by HIV and AIDS.
The beneficiary of the California AIDS Ride is the San Francisco AIDS Foundation. SFAF provides services and treatment programs to 130,000 AIDS patients each year. They have the largest needle exchange program in the world. Additionally, SFAF operates the California HIV/AIDS Hotline, serving more than 90,000 residents of California.
