WhatisAMA

What is AMA?

The American Marketing Association is a national organization that was founded by a group of marketers in 1937 and has become one of the largest associations for marketers in the US. AMA offers specialty conferences, one-day hot topic seminars, boot camps, and workshops to help marketers build the skills that keep them ahead of emerging trends, and help long-term professional development. AMA is open to all majors and minors.

What does AMA do?

The American Marketing Association participates in case competitions which gives students the opportunity to work on real-world marketing challenges. Cash prizes are given to the winners. The organization also attends international conferences which provide leadership training and a sales contest in which individual students present a simulated sales presentation (cash is awarded to the top participants). AMA hosts professional workshops such as resume and financial workshops to better prepare our members for careers.

How can AMA benefit me?

You can use your membership ID to get special member pricing for conferences and articles on the national AMA web site. You will receive an employment kit to help you build your resume, networking and interviewing skills. Members only can access the career section of the national web site with detailed information on marketing careers and job resources. Not to mention the intangible benefits of being an active member and leader of a national organization: enhancing leadership skills, practice in managing others, improving communication skills, learning valuable lessons in running a business, experiencing the development and implementation of an operating plan.

What if I'm graduating next semester?

The American Marketing Association offers bridge membership to graduating AMA collegiate members which allows them to become a professional member at a fraction of the cost.

Dues?

Annual collegiate dues are $42 and this includes a 12 month membership and a one-year subscription to Marketing News (the leading publication for the marketing industry). The local chapter dues are $48. These can be paid in installments and methods of payment include credit card, check card, money order, check, or cash.
