EVIL SPELLS I am always happy to receive paper zines from faraway foreign lands. CTD Zine has a humourous, yet sick drawing cover. In its 24 black and white pages, A4 size you will find interviews with: MASOCHIST, OPUS DRACONIS, ROTTEN SOUND, PUTREFIED GENITALIA, ARTERY ERUPTION, ABYSMAL TORMENT and more. There is also a Metalfest from Singapore report, an INSISION live in Bangkok report plus some reviews and news. All these make out a very good effort, especially since the printing is cool and you can read clearly between the lines. There is a LIVIDITY interview in (continued), some comics, some other 2-3 inties plus some reviews. It felt great to see an interview having some words written with Greek characters!!! Still this is an overall low information zine. This reminds me of the early days before internet became so widespread and I really like it. Some interviews you get here are: HELLACAUST, HORDE OF WORMS, SKITZO, TERMINAL DESCENT and more. Also many reviews from extreme metal. Sink your teeth into WORSHIP SATAN and contact Keegan at once. I know he is a great guy. Keegan also does some releases to promote bands he like. Canada BLACK BLOOD ZINE Issue 1 Winter 06 (Hellas) This is the first issue of Black Blood Zine. This zine is devoted to the spirit of the late 80s early 90s zines such as UNHOLINESS, MEGAMOSH, PROPHETIC VISION and SPLATTER ZINE (all Hellenic zines of the early 90s). Black Blood comes in 36 pages in black and white. All stuff is written in English. Black Blood is very readable as the words are not packed, which means that there is space left among the texts (which is something I really miss in some zines). This 1st issue has interviews with MACHETAZO, WATAIN, NOCTURNAL VOMIT, BURIAL HORDES, PRIMEVAL MASS, BLASPHEMOUS NOISE TORMENT and more. There are also the editor’s (Unholy Sodomizer) playlist, paper zine (the True Cult) and music reviews, presentations of live shows that took place in Greece, an article for H.P. Lovecraft, plus a “Zombies in Cinema” article. What more to ask? A very good beginning for this zine and a wide range of subjects for the reader to read. Contact Unholy Sodomizer / Eressou 70-72 / Exarchia 106 83 / Athens / HELLAS BLACK BLOOD ZINE Issue 2 Summer 06(Hellas) The second issue of Black Blood Zine expands to 48 pages this time! The old school artwork and layout should be considered given for this zine. This time you will get interviews from CHAOSBAPHOMET, MARTYRVORE (a great band! Check them out!), PUTREFIED GENITALIA, COLD NORTHERN VENGEANCE, CRUCIFIRE (another band most definitely worth to check out!), HEPTAMERON (great band from Hellas), DEATHEVOKATION, GODLESS and more… Two small articles for “Pentacle and its meaning” and “Witch Hunting in the Medieval World”, a bigger article-point of view on “Underground Metal”, reviews on music stuffs and live shows, another article entitled “Black Books (Grimoire) – Clavicula Salomonis”, plus some more articles with subjects like “Aleister Crowley”, “Vampyrism in Literature” and a sick, extreme, perverted, disturbing and shocking movies’ overview complete the whole package. I can say that this is a way better effort than in the 1st issue, with more reviews than before and I am really looking forward to Black Blood’s 3rd strike. GUTTURAL SICKNESS ZINE Issue 1 May 2006 (Philippines) GUTTURAL SICKNESS is a 40 pages zine perfect for your brutal tastes! It’s an A4 size, black and white, photocopied zine. Its 3 editors seem to really enjoy brutality (Cheers Jamie!). The language is English and the interviews featured are cumming from bands like A GOOD DAY FOR KILLING, CONDEMNED, DEVIRGINIZER. DISSIMULATE, DOWN FROM THE WOUND, HUMAN MASTICATION, INHUMATE, ORCHIDECTOMY, PUS VOMIT, REST IN GORE, SURGERY, TEFROSIS and many more. There is a presentation of the zine crew, many reviews with the album covers next to them and an overall sick, brutal attitude. I can see some teeth grinding out there in the view of the web addresses below. GUTTURAL SICKNESS is a web zine and also a paper zine too. So, I think these guys really do a great job in supporting the brutality in both ways. If you are the type of guy that thinks we are back in the 50s and that webzines come from false people, that internet is a disease, blah blah blah, then maybe these guys will change your stuck mind. Yet, I am amazed that I received a zine from Cuba!!! COMBAT NOISE is the band on the cover of the zine. The other interviews come from TU CARNE, LYMPHATIC PHLEGM, SANGUINARY, MINCING FURY AND GUTTURAL GLAMOUR OF QUEER DECAY, HOLOCAUST, GRINDER CARNAG, SOILS OF FATE and more. So, grind and gore fans you may attempt to proceed. If you know Cubanese (that’s a problem for the zine), you will surely swallow its 24 black and white pages that additionally have an article for the serial killer Dahmer, a Hecatomce Records presentation plus live and music reviews. What’s more? A Bosnia and Herzegovina scene report. In SHRUNKEN MUMMIFIED’s 32 A4 pages you will get many info, especially from the reviews. The zine is written in English, so it is comprehensible for almost everyone. Personally, I’d like the fonds a little bigger, so I could read easier between the lines. It is handnumbered to just 200 copies and was released back in January 2006. Its cover comes in sky-blue colour thick paper, while the inside in normal writing paper. There are interviews with MACHETAZO, NECROCANNIBAL, BRUTUS, R.D.B., STRANGULATION, ACROPHAGIA etc plus few reviews. The zine’s cut and paste / collage aesthetic is in my tastes. In fact I love it. The main goal is to support the u/g here. The same cadaveric warbrothers are behind Luci Dist. Prods. too. The photocopy quality is rather poor, but who gives a fuck? This is aimed from fans to fans. Corix is a real u/g freak and a killer supporter of the global u/g movement. ZINE (Philippine Underground Publication) issue 6(66) (Philippines) This time NBZINE strikes back with 42 pages featuring interviews from DECRUSTED, LINCOLN LOVE LOG, COUP DE GRACE, DOWN FROM THE WOUND, GAYANG KULINTANGAN REVOLT, CREATIVE WASTE, EX NIHILO, ANUS DE SATANUS, PHLEGM THROWER and VIC JARLEGO plus reviews from music, zines and videos, poetry, articles and the “Squat the World” story of a hitch-hiker. This time NBZINE comes with the DIY COMPILATION VOL.4 cdr featuring bands like TOXEMIA, PUS VOMIT, DOWN FROM THE WOUND, SEPTIC SEWER, WATUZI, COUP DE GRACE and many more. This comp. is a great way to discover the latest u/g movements from bands in Southeast Asia. I really admire Corix for continuing his zine from Saudi Arabia, where he has moved to work. Words can’t describe my respect for him. Corix is the real underground! Ave brother!! Keep the flame alive even in the desert hell! NOISE ZEALOT FANZINE Issue No. 2 (Re-release September 2005) (Thailand) A-TEAM, BEEF CONSPIRACY, BIOPSYCUNT, DEPRESSION< DISSECT< GRUUTHAAGY, INHUMATE, JIGSORE, KATALEPSY, LIGHT IS THE LANGUAGE, NOSFERATRUX, PIGSTY, PUTREFIED GENITALIA, ROTTEN SOUND, SCUMFUCK, SPLATTERED CAVITIES and WOJCZECH are the bands interviews of which parade in the 24 A4 b/w pages of this written in English Thai zine. Due to the pictures put behind the texts, some parts of them can’t be easily read. There are sick and shocking photos all over the zine. I would still need more reviews than just 2 pages. At first, check the interviewed bands: ROTTREVORE, DEMILICH, DEAD, EROTICIDE, HIDEOUS MANGLEOUS, KAAMOS, NUCLEAR DEATH, INCANTATION, BRODEQUIN, GHOUL, DISLIMB, SCURVY, SKIT SYSTEM and BIOLICH. Then take a closer look to the SICK cover artwork in yellow thick paper with a zombified, living-dead girl-dancer of Disease. Check that there is no logo or band names on the cover. The zine is written (in English) just like in the old days in the typewriter (and it was made just in 2005). In every interview, there are loads of info, photos, artworks. There are flyers (especially old ones) all over the zine. The NUCLEAR DEATH interview is accompanied additionally with unique sick artwork. The reviews are “to the bone”, executed by a man who has knowledge in what he does (and that’s absolutely clear-just read Michele’s words carefully). Search the web for NUCLEAR ABOMINATIONS web page too) PATHOLOGICALLY EXPLICIT ZINE Issue 7 (Spain) Professionally printed zine in black and white glossy paper, written in English. In its 52 pages you will read interviews with MACHETAZO, BRODEQUIN, Andres from GOREGIASTIC RECORDS, MELTING FLESH, FLAGELLUM DEI, GORATORY, GATHERING DARKNESS, DEVOURMENT, DEADEN, ESCHATON, INFECTED MALIGNITY, ABRASIVE, EMETH, MISANTHROPY, ROMPEPROP, GUTROT, VOMITORY, PSYCROPTIC, NOCTURNAL VOMIT, ZOMBIE RITUAL, VOMIT REMNANTS, NIHIL OBSTAT, STABWOUND plus many reviews on the latest releases. As you can see PATHOLOGICALLY EXPLICIT ZINE is mostly focused in death / grind / gore stuffs but some black metal is welcomed too. This issue is accompanied with the “Taste Of Gore Vol. IV” cdr with 27 songs from bands like GORATORY, NOCTURNAL VOMIT, PROPHECY, STOMA, REINFECTION, PIGSTY. Much professional work. Fernando Romero Bastante / c/Madrid No 10 / 14120 Fuente Palmera / Cordoba / Spain [email protected] PATHOLOGICALLY EXPLICIT ZINE Issue 8 (Spain) The artwork on the cover page of this issue was done by Adam Meyer on 25-12-2005 (what an inspiring day Christmas is!!!). Same goes for this issue as for the previous one. This time there are 40 pages. I like very much the usage of white letters upon black background pictures. The interviews here are: BEHEADED, VENEREAL MESSIAH, INHUMAN DISSILIENCY, DEEDS OF FLESH, FOSCOR, HAPPY FACE, FONDLE CORPSE, SARCOLYTIC, GODLESS TRUTH, CHAINSAW DISSECTION, SCENT OF DEATH, FEED US FETUS, VOMIT REMNANTS, REVENANCE, MORTAL DECAY and AEON. There are some reviews added in (just as in the previous issue I would like to read more reviews). Nevertheless, PATHOLOGICALLY EXPLICIT ZINE is a professional zine and it is very informative. This issue comes with the “Taste of Gore Vol. V” cdr featuring 26 songs of bands like ARTERY ERUPTION, CORPSEFUCKING ART, DEFEATED SANITY, JASAD, INHUMAN DISSILIENCY, KEVLAR SKIN (Fernando’s-the editor-band), LIVIDITY, PUTRID PILE and VENEREAL MESSIAH among others. SONIC SPLENDOUR (Underground Music Magazine) Issue 4 (Turkey) What first attracted me when I got this zine in my hands is the quality of the paper used. It is something like a thicker newspaper paper. It really feels great in my hands! The cover and layout of the magazine are very cleverly designed. Musically the zine covers a variety of interviews from MIKE PATTON to BEHEMOTH. Some other interviews are ENTOMBED, AVULSED, LENG TCHE, MACHETAZO, CRIPPLE BASTARDS, MUCUPURULENT, CENOTAPH and loads more. There are many informative reviews on music and zines; reviews that cover almost all types of music. The reviews are specific and clear. The article “Visual Splendour” is a reference to some films we all like. There is also 1 ½ page full of label contacts for those who may be interested in sending out a demo or what. I really think SONIC SPLENDOUR is a zine every maniac into paper zines has to read. 98 pages in A4 killer b/w (greyscale) paper for your pleasure. Of course, the zine is written in English. AUTOPHAGIA, DESECRATOR, WORLD DOWNFALL, STOMA, HUTT, PUTREFIED GENITALIA, WTN, RAZORBACK RECORDS and BLOOD parade in its 56 A4 pages. The zine came out in 2 editions (one with white and one with grey colour cover). Marc is a true supporter of the gore / grind scene, so expect tons of reviews plus many flyers. Some perfectionists may say that it would be better to have the reviews in columns so they eye could span easier between the lines, some may find other weaknesses (as in every zine), still my opinion is that this is a zine I really enjoy reading, and that’s what matters the most. This issue comes with 2 tapes (90 minutes each) entitled “The Review Sessions Pt. 1 and Pt.2, featuring songs from the bands reviewed in this issue, so the reader can make up his own mind whether he likes a band or not by listening, not just reading the reviews. Some of the bands featured in Pt.1: ROMPEPROP, TU CARNE, REGURGITATE, GENERAL SURGERY, AGATHOCLES, ROT, MAGGUT, PUTREFIED GENITALIA, LAST DAYS OF HUMANITY, and in Pt.2: AUTOPHAGIA, I SHIT ON YOUR FACE, TUMOUR and more. I really enjoy getting zines (proofs of the u/g activity) from far away countries of the so called third world. I really admire those people (like Jamie from GUTTURAL SICKNESS ZINE and Corix from NO BULLSHIT ZINE) who do this despite the million difficulties they have to deal with, just for the sake of support and fun. Joselito is another maniac like the aforementioned ones. His first issue is 36 pages in A5 paper printed in black and white and written in English. The cover comes in thicker paper. This issue was done in a 500 copies run and covers the following subjects: SYMPHONIC BLAST PRODUCTIONS, NIHILISTIC HOLOCAUST label presentation, INNER SURGE, ROTTEN COLD (photo on the cover too), DICK STINK, plenty of reviews in a cut and paste layout, questions to zine editors (including myself) and many more subjects to make you grind your white teeth out. Joselito Sional / MCPO Boc 3589 / 1275 Makati City / Philippines [email protected] [email protected] http://www.noiseattack.cjb.net ORAL CLIMAX Underground Death / Grind fanzine Issue No.1 (Hungary) The subjects of ORAL CLIMAX for this issue are: AGE OF AGONY, GUTTED, KILLING ART, ABORTION, SCREAMING AFTERBIRTH, DEATH REALITY, SHRUNKEN AND MUMMIFIED ZINE, ROMPEPROP, MALEDICTIVE PIGS, HUMAN ERROR, HEADCLEANER and BIZARRE LEPROUS PRODUCTIONS. All in 56 A4 b/w pages. The biggest part of the zine is with reviews and that’s killer for all of us who want to get to know new bands. Sadly, the zine language is Hungarian, which is a drawback since I think only few people speak this language. In my opinion, zines written in English are appealing to more people. In any case, this is a great zine, with many reviews, many contacts and a killer u/g attitude. Torok “Turkey” Janos / Kormend / Honved u. 3, 9900 / Hungary [email protected] [email protected] ORAL CLIMAX Underground Death / Grind fanzine Issue No.2 (Hungary) The second attack of this zine finds it with a new sick logo. ACIDITY REGULATOR, STOMA, SPAWN OF POSSESSION, MALEDICTION, CADAVER, SCENT OF DEATH, DISGORGE (U.S.), PIGSTY, DAPTHS OF DEPRAVITY, MEGAZETOR, DESPISE, FLESHCRAWL, ILLDISPOSED, ETERNAL BLEEDING, NADIR, INSISION and more you will find in. There are again tons of reviews and I’d call this a great zine (still for speakers of the Hungarian language though). CHANTS OF ATOMIC GENOCIDE Issue 1 (Hellas) This is not exactly a zine. The man behind the zine, my comrade Kostas of PUTREFIED GENITALIA and EMBRACE OF THORNS, calls this 20 A5 pages edition a “black/death metal propagating paper”. The cover artworks is red and features the NOCTURNAL VOMIT 7” “Arts of…” artwork. Inside there are interviews with DERKETA, NECROS CHRISTOS and NOCTURNAL VOMIT, plus an EMBRACE OF THORNS biography and also a KILL YOURSELF PRODS. DISTRO LIST (that’s Kostas’ label). There is old school collage style layout, with beautiful cut and paste job done. There are also some old and hard to find flyers added in. This is not a profitable effort. Also there is no reviews section, so as the editor says “No promos needed”. This is an unconventional effort, free from the chains of what we normally call “zine”. Kostas Koudousnes / Skopelou 9 / 13561 / Ag. Anargiri / Athens / HELLAS (Greece) [email protected] IMPACT DRILL Issue No. 2 March 2005 (Turkey) IMPACT DRILL is an underground extreme musick fanzine from Anatolia. Semih, the editor, is a great guy I am really glad to know. He is also a member of the grind band SAKATAK. Bands featured with interviews in this issue are among others ONE STEP BEYOND and BARBATOS, while there are Sardinian, Hungarian, Indian and (though it’s tough for Greek people, that’s how everybody calls them now) Macedonian scene reports. There are tons of reviews included with very informative character. There are 48 A5 pages of IMPACT DRILL here. The cover is in red paper. Of course the language is English. Support this great zine and also listen to SAKATAK. The Turkish u/g movement gets really strong with such releases. Keep up the killer work Semih bro! Semih Orhan / Fethiye Mah. NECROSCOPE Metalzine Issue No. 17 (Poland) Now, do you really need a review for NECROSCOPE zine? I mean, do you really need it?? Listen, guys, when a zine has 17 issues released, this is a review itself!!! I also think that most of you already know NECROSCOPE, so you don’t need me to tell you things about it. Talk is cheap! This is a totally u/g style necro zine edited by a total u/g maniak. MACHETAZO, ZARATHUSTRA, EMBRYOTOMY, BURIAL HORDES, PRIMEVAL MASS, COLD NORTHERN VENGEANCE are only few of the interviewed bands here. As you see, there is no discrimination here between death and black (unholy hails Adam!). There are billions of reviews, an article for the forgotten race of tape traders, plus an article entitled “Pearls from Abyss” which is a manuscript for underground diamonds lost in time. Adam does one of the best zines around. Don’t hesitate to ask him for the compilation bootlegs he releases with obscure diamonds of extreme metal which have been lost in time. I really think that this zine is the bible of extremity be it death or black. Along with NUCLEAR ABOMINATIONS one of my favourites. 144 (yes!) A5 pages in b/w and in English. Bite it now! There are interviews with HORDE OF WORMS, KINETIC, PUTREFIED GENITALIA, RIGOR MORTIS, DEMONIC RESSURECTION, VEXED, BLOODY SIGN and moooore. There are many reviews and all pages are in two columns, so they can be read easier. I think there is great work done behind this zine and I want it to continue and grow. The southeastern part of Asia is so sick! The editors of SANGWITOK ZINE decided to release this issue in the 6th day of the 6th month of the year 2006! BATTLELORE, HELL-BORN, INSIDE, IN TORMENT, KRANDA MAYAT, KRATORNAS, MANTAK, MODER, MOORNFUL and SUICIDAL are the acts that appear interviewed inside. SANGWITOK ZINE has 100 pages size A5 in b/w. The language is English and there is a great aesthetic of collage everywhere. What I really don’t like is the small letters used which can be barely read. Tons of flyers and many many reviews and a news section compile the whole package which is nonetheless a very interesting one for me. So, I suggest you dig it guys. P.O. This is not a new prayerbook, but a fantastic zine from Italy. Check the interviews: SARGATANAS, GOATVOMIT, EXCARNATED, SADISTIK EXECUTION, HORRID, HEPTAMERON, BLOOD, DEPRESSION, RAVENCULT, THRONEUM, ATAVISM, HAEMORRHAGE, CIANIDE, UNHOLY ARCHANGEL, BEAST PETRIFY, MORBOSIDAD and more. I think some of the reviews are small though. Old school freaks will surely love the collage ways concerning the layout. The whole thing is unholy and really shady in the evil way. This is a zine I hail and wanna see more of it in the near future. For the moment I read again and again its 40 A4 very informative pages written in English. Congratulations guys! Some of the interviewed names: INFECTED MALIGNITY, LIVIDITY, VULVATHRONE, VOMIT REMNANTS, REST IN GORE, LEPROZINE and MARTIN VAN DRUNEN. Especially the last interview with MARTIN VAN DRUNEN is an interview I would love to read, but unfortunately I don’t speak German, so I can only see the photos in the zine! The cover is coloured and the inside pages all black and white. There are 30 of them, size of paper A4. The reviews are clearly placed in the page, so I think there is simple, but great job done in the layout here. In the editorial there is a photo of some gays fuckin’ each other with the statement “Black Metal is Gay”. Of course, I don’t agree with that, since there are not only gay black metal bands around, but killer, amazing and highly respected and influential black metal bands too. Nevertheless, this is an overall great effort that makes me looking forward to the next issue.
