EMBRACE THE DEATH This amazing piece of death metal was recorded back in 11-10-1995. Chad Walls on drums and vocals, Scot Dunlap on bass and vocals and Jason French on guitar and lead vocals give a seminar of how death metal has to sound; dark, uncanny, coming from the deepest oceans of the human thought. The lyrics speak of loneliness, despair, malevolence and death and seem to me like small poems. The riffs are stranded with the guitar and the bass being one. I fuckin’ like this sound in the bass. Check out for this absolutely fantastic CD. You will dig a hidden diamond here. A diamond that has nothing less compared to the milestones of the early 90s in death metal. Trust me. Even though their influences are obvious and vary from DEVOURMENT and BRODEQUIN to LUST OF DECAY, GORGASM and VOMIT REMNANTS, they have a pretty unique way in their playing style. They are very nervous players with insane riffs and continuously changing rhythms that won’t let you rest even for a second. The sound and distortion of the bass in fantastic. The tones that come from the 4-string change the whole perception of every song (bravo Andrea!). Jon Zig’s artwork is again magnificent (though slightly different from the art he usually executes). Great and clear production also. The vocals are mainly ultra guttural, but some high screams will appear at some ending phrases just ta move ya ass out of your fuckin’ chair. The groovy parts are really mosh-creating and gravedigging. I also fuckin’ dig the REPUDILATION shirt Aaron Mendiola (the band’s vocalist) wears (Hey, I need one of this shirt bro!!!). No shit EXULCERATE kick some serious ass. They are a very good and tight band. The artwork of the CD is one of those that “big” label’s usually censor….(hehehehehe…). You check for your own. The CD is mostly dedicated to Dimebag (once again R.I.P. bro). Recommended. Chris Hutto (ex-DEVOURMENT) is the man. “Blackest Origins…” was recorded in San Antonio, TX in just six and a half hours and contains material composed between the years 2000-2002. Don’t expect nothing less than TXDM. The 6 ½ hour session has maintained a live/rehearsal feeling in the recording and that makes it sound great to my ears. The riffs are powerful enough to make you violate over dead bodies all night long… Fast, furious in the needed amounts, brutal, groovy… This is absolutely sick! It’s releases like this that-with their great compositions-make me ignore the drum machine use (PUTRID PILE is another band to achieve that). The song titles brought to my mind one of my all time favourite bands INFERNAL DOMINION. Check song titles like “Asphyxiating on Force Fed Christianity”, “Enthralled by Christian Reverence” or “Scathing Tractarianism Immortalizing the Beheading of Christ”. The artwork is done by Torch (Morbid and Unholy Hails My Brother!!!) and is simply one of the sickest I have ever seen. There is no contact address in the CD, so I suggest you contact Comatose right away…. “In time the war begins… The all knowing father shall be crushed under our wings… We shall disavow the ignorance of Jesus Christ. Plunging the world into reign of individuality… No more will we serve to this lie… Fuck Jesus Christ.” LUST OF DECAY – Purity Through Dismemberment (Comatose Music) Now you don’t need me to speak. Just check the band’s line up guys. Well, LUST OF DECAY is Jay Barnes-vocals, Steve Green-guitar, Joe Payne-bass, Jordan Varela-drums. Do you really need me say more??!!? Well, recorded by Bob Moore at The Sound Lab, Columbia, SC., this is their 3rd full length after “Infesting the Exhumed” and “Kingdom of Corpses”. Of course, every single brutal death metal fan in the known universe knows that LUST OF DECAY is one of the defining bands of this genre. Their 3rd full length finds them in great performing condition and ready to destroy the unbelievers with their strong as a clenched fist compositions. The riffs Steve performs are brutal in the full meaning of the word “brutal”, insanely twisted and sick. Joe’s bass is brilliantly clever and exposes the instrument while keeping its surrounding role. Jay is the personification of the word “throat”. Last (but surely not least! How could he??) Jordan gives a recital in brutal death metal drumming. I think he can only be counted with CRYPTOPSY’s Flo Mournier. The compositions are once again fuckin’ amazing, so what more to ask? Slamming fuckin’ brutal death metal loud enough to deafen you forever! In their debut the grooves and slams kick ass! Brutal anthems like “Festering Anal Vomit” and “Head in a Crock Pot” have been written by LUST OF DECAY and only. Total respect! In this re-issue, the ages ago sold out “Rest In Hell” demo 2000 is added in as a bonus, so hurry up! This won’t last forever!!! The demo is cool for the era it was recorded and reveals an unknown side of the band with its primitive/raw sound. Buy or die! BESTIAL RAIDS / BLASPHEMOPHAGHER split CD (Coagulated Records) BESTIAL RAIDS side entitled “Hellish Assault” is a necro black metal recording with concrete/bulldozer drum and guitar/bass work. The vocals are desperate, necrophiliac and abyssic. Poland has a great tradition is such sounds. 4 own compositions and a BEHERIT cover for “Grave Desecration” recorded in the studio, plus 5 more live tracks (including a “In the Name of Satan” IMPALED NAZARENE cover), is what BESTIAL RAIDS contributed for this release. They are a very good band in their genre. BLASPHEMOPHAGHER side is entitled “Cult of Nuclear Hell” and includes 8 songs of black metal blasphemy. However, just as in the BESTIAL RAIDS case, old school death metal fans will probably like them. They included a “Thermonuclear Devastation” ONSLAUGHT cover plus an “Emperor of the Black Abyss” BLASPHEMY cover recorded for an unreleased BLASPHEMY tribute album. Also their song “Curse of the Phosgene Fog” was originally recorded for the “Unholy War Metal Gathering” compilation. 3 bonus video tracks of BLASPHEMOPHAGHER are added in. In an unbelievably folding paper packaging they present here a 3 way split full of the metal of death we all love. SOULLESS is an amazing band that I surely feel like following. They come from Poland playing death metal the old school way, but with many clear and fresh ideas. Prepare for a mixture of VADER / BOLT THROWER with an amazing guitar work (be it riffs or solos). Of course you know this means war, don’t you? PANDEMIC GENOCIDE (from Poland too) offer 8 tracks of twisted riff death metal in the way the godfathers MORBID ANGEL meant it to be. They sound rather evil. The lead guitar parts followed by the rhythmic heaviness they create will make you turn red, get horns way up on your head and a biiiig tail back in your ass. Very promising band. Last band of the split is ARMINIUS from the Netherlands. The intro sets the climate for war and a BOLT THROWER / Swedish mixture comes out on! The production of ARMINIUS is not so good though, compared to the other bands in this split. That leaves me with the sense they need to try some more next time in this part. I really don’t like the black metal vocals in some parts of the songs (the CANNIBAL CORPSE-like suffocating death metal ones are OK to me). Some interesting ideas in the song structures leave promises for the future. I suggest you hurry up and get this split since it is limited to 1000 handnumbered copies. For this purpose they used their love for pure death metal, brutality and sickness plus their undoubted music knowledge. VOMEPOTRO come from Brazil and is not a new band, but draw back to the mid 90s. They are great performers. They play brutal death metal musick in the U.S. vein with fantastic, technical a-la CANNIBAL CORPSE, but also some slower and sicker riffs that brutalize the fuck! The repetition of the riffs really drove me off my head to slam the hell! Fuckin’ amazing guitars man! The rhythm section is made of granite with a thick and groovy bass plus a tremendous wall of drums that will devastate you like a weak child before a blazing tank in the battlefield! The guitar solos paint in the brutal canvas of the songs feelings of superiority, despair, emptiness, disease and sickness. Check your local distro or contact straight the band. Phil Holland (ex-PROPHECY) vocals are a guarantee of brutality! Jeff Hernandez (also ex-PROPHECY) guitar brings a lot PROPHECY to my mind, while he also does some great back up vocals. No actual need to say much more about this CD. This is a great debut with well known musicians in their genre. If you are into brutal bands like PROPHECY, SOILS OF FATE, SUFFOCATION or even LUST OF DECAY, you will have to be sure to check it out. SEWN SHUT – Rediscovering the Dead (Selfmadegod Records) The question for this CD is if you are into grind or not. If you are, then go NOW and fuckin’ get it! This Swedish band is fuckin’ amazing! They get all the NASUM feel, add some brutal vocals in and deliver fast and sharp grind hymns!!! Herein you will find their material from their split 7” EPs with SQUASH BOWELS, EMBALMING THEATRE, ULCERRHOEA, MIND COLLAGE, and MAN IN SHACKLES plus 3 songs from the Polargrinder compilation LP (as far as I know all rare items). They come from Poland and admitting that not all of them have enough time to play all their concerts some extra musicians join the band. They are not session members though, and they are considered as full value members. This makes a collective of 8 people! Musically, their direction is towards gore/grind. Some riffs reminded me of the IMPETIGO simplicity in songwriting. I don’t think that this is a milestone of gore/grind or something that hasn’t been played already by thousands of bands, yet it will make the gore/grind and maybe some brutal fans have a nice time. This is a band I definitely wanna have the chance to see live one day! In their second full length Virginia’s SOLACE OF REQUIEM have already managed to sign in a fantastic label like Ruptured Silence (Congratulations for signing them Ritchie!). Musically, SOLACE OF REQUIEM have taken their traditional death metal many steps forwards with this release. They are all very skilful musicians, so their dark, majestic death metal is technical at the same time. Riffwise, vocalwise but in the song structures too, they bring to my mind a lot of the DEATH ways era “Human” and “Symbolic”. Of course no cheap imitators here, but a band that has no fear to admit its influences and has talented enough musicians to perform in the required ways. All songs in “Utopia Reborn” left me at least very much impressed. The riffs were stuck on my mind as I was entering the SOLACE OF REQUIEM domains of darkness and metal of death. Their leads are simply magnificent and reminded me of the glorious early 90s leads from bands like GRAVE, MALEVOLENT CREATION or ENTOMBED. Rhythmically they are so very heavy!! They really convince me in each and every note that they are a big band! But most of all it is the unbeatable passion SOLACE OF REQUIEM have that will soon bring them on top. Here we have the new big death metal band, according to my opinion. I had noticed them from their debut self financed CD. Be the next to know them now! ABSCESS is Clint Bower, Chris Reifert, Joe Allen and Danny Coralles, if that says anything… So here you will get fabulous rot ‘n’ roll with dozens of sickness flown in. On the other hand it’s BLOODRED BACTERIA. Well, of course you know AGATHOCLES. Yep, the Belgian mythic mincecore band. Well, Jan AGx is here in the bass. So, BxBx grind as if you were in the dentist’s chair. This is a fuckin’ fantastic split guys. Expect gore! That’s right! APOPLEXY is all about Los Angeles gore metal. The production is not very good, but affordable for the genre’s standards. Some intros have become a must in every gore release. Also a MORTICIAN cover is cool for every gore band (they do “Zombie Apocalypse”). In this CD version 4 tracks are added in as rerecorded versions from their “Malignant Lobotomy” demo. They work like a perfectly wounded up machine of death. They have many MORBID ANGEL influences, yet they are fully in the spirit of nowadays death metal. I like very much their drums and the steadiness of their riffs that will break your neck, then roll you out. INGURGITATING OBLIVION is a technical band with classic vocals that will vary at few times to brutal ones, never forgetting their MORBID ANGEL basis. I was astonished! I immediately thought this band will soon sign in a big label. I wasn’t wrong. Here I have in my hands their debut full length from Unmatched Brutality. 8 tracks of the utmost brutality (some of them rerecorded from the demo). INFECTED MALIGNITY have nothing to fear from the U.S. brutal bands. I imagine them easily destroying the Maryland Deathfest scene. Their songs are built on Takuma’s riffs of killer instincts with the addition of Yuuto Sugano’s drums that sound like a fuckin’ death machine, and on the top Katsuyuki Oota’s bass filling the puzzle, while his vocals wake up the dead bodies angry and seeking revenge. In the songs “Revenge to Capitalism” and “Cruel Recollection” (from the demo) Takanori Fujioka from VOMIT REMNANTS performs some guest vokills. This is a must have. I know this CD dates back to 2001! But this is a re-release, guys. INSIDIOUS DECREPANCY is just Shawn Whitaker. This multi-talented brutal-head performs here all the record (guitar, bass, vocals and programming) just by his self! Except from his own compositions of relentless brutal death metal with groovy a-la LIVIDITY vocals with high scream touches, he also performs an IMMOLATION “Dawn of Possession” cover. I really think IMMOLATION is a band that can very difficultly be covered (or to be more precise, no IMMOLATION cover can get the original feeling of Ross Dolan, Bob Vigna and their bandmates in IMMOLATION). Nevertheless, “Decadent Orgy of Atrocious Suffering” is a very good record with memorable songs. The cover art was done once again by (guess who?) Jon Zig. This re-release is dedicated to Dimebag Darrell Abbott (R.I.P.) of PANTERA. Shawn as usually recorded a masterpiece in very few hours (this time it was 9 hours). The one guy writes all music and lyrics, and the other one performs all vocals without using any kind of vocal effects. The SCID style is brutal death metal. Yet, I really don’t like this drum machine thing they use because I think it is not well programmed. The riffs are cool though and have a lot of energy. Tracks 1-6 were recorded in different studio and at different chronological periods than 7-11 did, which explains the sound divergence between them. I got “Brutalized Beyond Belief” many years ago in a trade with Henke of SOILS OF FATE. This first edition is long ago sold out and very hard to find now, so Amputated Vein made the right decision to re-release it (great job Masakatsu bro!) along with some 5 bonus tracks plus a video for “My Mighty Sword” taken from an early 1998 show (in .wmv format). The feel of this album at times is almost black metal with some high screams and treble riffs, and then the slow heavy parts with those killer brutal vocals will drive you to the depths of hell while a lead guitar will chant above your dying head. “Brutalized Beyond Belief” was recorded and mixed in just 15 hours during May 24-25/1997 which proves that there is no need for expensive studios to record a magnificent record. This is an advanced cdr copy of the forthcoming SATANICON / PUTREFY split CD. Both bands have common members. So, this makes a strange collaboration here. SATANICON is a black metal band with slow riffs and a-la SARCOFAGO (wannabe) vocals. The chaotic SLAYER influenced solos are meaningless and appear where they shouldn’t. Of course SATANICON try to create some black metal atmosphere, but they don’t really achieve it. PUTREFY come with some different production (still demo one) to play some old school black / death mixture. I find their ideas inarticulate, thus their 3 songs lack of tightness. The riffs are simple while the leads fly somewhere away! No heaviness at all throughout the songs. I understood his reasons completely. Still the GBN harsh noise grind really appealed to me. I was always a fan of experimentation. That’s why I got their CD after all. In their part of this split the Japanese sickos vomit 17 songs of pure noise / grind madness enough to make you puke several times your guts out. All songs were recorded in a live show of GBN. The decision is yours. NUNWHORE COMMANDO 666 are the type of guys who normally wear masks and have naked ladies to lick up their guns! This is asphyxiating, sadomasochistic and terrorizing grind. Some bulldozer vocals remind me of their co-patriots CBT. On the back cover there are 6 songs mentioned (all recorded live), but in the inlay you will find the complete tracklisting. This CD also contains 2 brand new songs, the complete full length “The Putrid Remains” and 4 out of 5 songs of the mini album “Body Bits”. On the first CD there are 4 untitled tracks that Chuck and Richard recorded for the planned to be released back in 2003 CONTROL DENIED album that never saw the light of the day due to Chuck’s death and some problems between the label and Chuck’s family. The songs are just demo recordings but show clearly that if one day the second CONTROL DENIED album sees the light of day, then we will be talking about a classic metal release. At the end of the day we waves goodnight the neighbour and eats some brains before going to bed with a corpse. I remember the shock I had with the first SAPROGENIC demo. Now, in their second full length they continue brutalizing with sharp riffs, yet technical for the genre they serve, a bunch of killer vocals that will vomit all the pus from the vocalist’s stomach straight to your fuckin’ face. The drumming is fabulous and makes the song sound more concrete and fuckin’ amazing. The grooves kill with the massive sound they have. They are a very experienced death metal band from Germany. Their influences come from classic death metal and vary from MASSACRE to DEICIDE, yet, their sound places them somewhere next to MORBID ANGEL, HATE ETERNAL, VADER and MASACRE (Colombia). Still they have formed their own personal sound. The production is as clear as it should be for a death metal release (not overpolished shit). Rene guitars show a very skilful musician with many years in the scene. The vocals of Sick spread the plague of Death over the masses. At the same time the drums and bass together sound like a tank attacking your hometown! I really think this is a KILLER CD because the compositions here are extremely interesting with lots of changes in the rhythms and melodies.
