Most of you are no doubt wondering, "Why would someone write fanfic about a 60's sitcom? What's with the Jeannie obsession?"
My career writing fanfic (so to speak) actually began as a protest against a Jeannie TV-movie made after the series ended (This one was entitled "I Still Dream of Jeannie").
To put it mildly, the writing stunk. Most of the jokes fell flat; in my opinion, the writers and producers were so hell-bent on trying to be funny that they forgot to be entertaining. Jeannie's behavior was … unreal … to say the least (especially near the end of the film).
I basically wrote the movie that I wanted to see. I felt a need to "balance the scales", so to speak. The end result of my protest was my (first) fanfic entitled "Night of The Immortal".
Creatively speaking, Jeannie intrigues me. With a little imagination, she can function across several genres -- comedy, drama, fantasy, action-adventure, etc. She has a larger-than-life quality that, in my opinion, is lacking in so many "sitcom" characters today.
Jeannie was a hell-raiser; she was nowhere near as domesticated as Samantha. She had spunk, nerve, and guts. In short, Jeannie had something Samantha lacked: ATTITUDE. It is for that reason that Jeannie will never go out of style.
