The grandfather of Yugi and the owner of his own game shop, Solomon is the who taught Yugi Duel Monsters and had also told him to believe in the Heart of the Cards. It was also him who handed Yugi the Millennium Puzzle and somewhat dared him to put it together.
Solomon is also the fourth owner of the legendary Blue Eyes White Dragon, a gift from his friend Arthur Hawkins. However it was ripped in two thanks to Seto when he was challenged to a duel by the young CEO.
Solomon travelled a lot when he was younger. He even travelled to the Valley of the Kings, a feat in 5000 years that no one was able to do. It was there where Solomon found the Millennium Puzzle. Solomon is also connected to ancient Egyptian history for he was saved from death by a phantom in the Pharaoh's tomb who called him Simon. 5000 years ago he was the advisor to Pharaoh Atemu, his name being Simon Muran. Solomon will always be there for Yugi and his friends, giving them tips of advice and how to handle themselves in certain situations and also to give plenty of info on Egyptian mythologies.

From the first time we see Mai, she seems like a conceited, laugh-your-head-off-duellist who is out for only one person: herself. However later on after being beaten by Joey she begins to learn about friendship. She's kinda like a female version of Seto, but not as cruel, obnoxious, or a real smarty pants though she is in her own right.
When she was a young child her parents were always out doing something, leaving her alone. When she became older she worked at a casino on a cruise ship. At that tiome, she believed her only "friends" were her Harpie Ladies. Soon enough she became a duellest, entering one tournament after the next, bettering her skills and becoming a real tough opponent for anyone to face.
Pretty much near the end of Duellist Kingdom she became friends with Yugi and the others. She even shows some feelings for Joey, even though they're hinted. Whether she and the young blond will ever get together is still unknown, but as of now you can say they're more then friends. Mai is someone that anyone can look up too, like Serenity did. She's a pretty tough person who has her own advice to give to the gang when she sees fit. She'll always be there to get your back when the time is right.
