Shopping for this dress ... well, it was back in early summer ... my annual "Mother's Day" trip to the stores ... "It's for a gift," I told the saleslady. But she quickly saw through me. (Am I THAT transparent? Or was it when I told her the size ... I really should lose some weight, shouldn't I?) She kept asking, very persistent, "What are YOU looking for? What do YOU like? Do you like THIS one?" And then. And THEN she started holding the dresses up to ME as she took them off the racks!! Then she would take a step back and extend her arms, so that she could better judge how they might look (on me?). Some were very cute but much too revealing for a not thin middle-aged girl like me. With some dresses, she'd say, "Oh, you wouldn't like this" or something along those lines. But if she found a dress that she thought I might like (or that she liked?), then she'd hold it up to me until I gave her an answer. A simple yes or no wouldn't do it for her. She'd not move on until I told her specifically what it was I didn't like about a particular dress. Anyway, I was rather embarassed ... but I just had to go with the flow :) But finally ... she held this crinkly floral dress up to me, and I fell in love with it immediately. I think she concurred in my choice. Or else, she just saw the look in my eyes as she showed it to me. Anyway, as she rang up my purchase, her parting words to me were, "Oh this is such a pretty dress ... I think you'll love it." Then, to another saleslady at the register, "Don't you just love this dress he picked out?" |
