HOMETOWN INTERESTS !
Stevensville, Maryland USAA small town on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay. On an island named Kent. This town is rich in tradition and history but is slowly being replaced with housing and business to accommodate all of the people living on the western shore of the bay who don't want to live in such crowded conditions. The consequence is that the farms are being sold and the builders get rich. And the county thinks they will benefit from the tax dollars they receive. Just look at the Kent Island Defense Leagues web site and see what they have to say. The residents will soon loose what beauty and tranquility they once enjoyed. Nevertheless it is still a nice place to live and offers so many good things. I am not sure how long this will last though. Old traditions are still being supported by new and old residents. We still have parades and a carnival and fireworks and a day to celebrate the town itself. So, with all of this at least the memories of a small town atmosphere can remain. I hope the county will soon see fit to take a more proactive course in the slowing of development before all is lost.Stevensville is on Kent Island at the foot of the William Preston Lane Memorial Bridge better know as the Bay Bridge. There are tree lined roads with pleasant looking houses in picturesque neighborhoods. This Eastern Shore Island is know for its seafood and boats. There are numerous restaurants to buy crabs or oysters or Maryland's famous Rock Fish. Maryland Crabcakes are the best and there is even a competition for the best ones. There is also a waterman's festival every year. Watermen deserve a lot of credit! They work almost year round in harsh conditions and none of them are making money from it. But they have a lot of pride in what they do.We also have our very own sea monster named Chessie! He has been sighted numerous times and even videoed. The Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC could not come to a conclusion as to what it actually was. Here I have included links to local places of interest, so I hope you enjoy looking at them!Kent Island Defense League - Save Kent Island from Development!
