The Starship Excelsior was originally designated NX-2000, but was later changed. She was the first of her class. During testing, she was fitted with a new transwarp drive propulsion system, which was later removed due to failure. She was put under the command of Captain Hikaru Sulu after being commisioned. Her first mission was to study gaseous anomalies and was to last three years. She would play an important role in the Khitomer Peace Conference of 2293. She Belonged to the same class as the USS Enterprise B.
