An artist's life is a struggle without stone in heart.

It is a struggle for the rights of Art in people's consciousness.

Art is unable to be a server or material.

It is also not peculiar to man to be a means. Man is always the purpose.

ABOUT POST-SYMBOLISM ART in the form of dialogue

Art pins people's hopes for a planet harmony not less than other ways of human search. Artists find themselves standing before a gulf, which has bewildered philosophers and scientists, theologians and theosophists. From this point of view one can understand the prophecy of Fyodor Dostoyevsky "Beauty will save the World".

REPLY. I guess that depends on which scientists and philosophers you are talking about. My own views of those subjects get along quite nicely

This point of view doesn’t make matter to divide art into types, schools, and styles.

REPLY. I think that there are all kinds of good reasons to identify schools, types, and styles. If you see something new you can understand the elements of it by saying that this school uses that technique all the time, but for different reasons, or that style has such and such a problem which in this case isn't a problem, or is made worse by some factor or other. Whether you like it or not, there are patterns of methods and styles and understanding them requires generalization and abstracting them away from the specific works.

REPLY TO THE REPLY. I think that it is impossible to be style-less in art. Style is a language of art, but wordbook is not a poem. The classifications in art occasionally can change art, as the trees do not let us conceive the forest. At present some arts and art-criticisms are only classifying the schools and terms, but making nobody Free. Yet a bit cannot content man, either an ancient or contemporary one.

The masterpieces of non-applied type were created by the old masters in limited frames of their workshops; likewise the poets transformed common speech into poems. The artists of modern times have used the means of any schools, and the unknown original ways. But the hand and the mind are always recognized in each master's work, and it is not called a style. It is impossible to say: the Rembrandt-stile, the Picasso-style, such as impossible to say about any man: "He (She) has lived and died in the style of…"

Symbolism Art, grown on the basis of romantic world-vision, did not create either schools or styles. Moreover all, arisen from its depth, were inevitably moving away from it, ceasing to be Symbolism in the sense and the meaning, as for example Art Nouveau.

A symbol is not just a thing among things. Due to its universality, it is similar to man. Man comprise the whole World, stays the measure of All. Man, being open to all, is coming to All completely.

Art is unable to be a server or material. Art contrasts with nonentity only. It is also not peculiar to man to be a means. Man is always the purpose.

REPLY. I think that is transparently false. Art can serve a wide variety of purposes. It can educate, enlighten, it can propagandize, excite, pacify, or revolt.

REPLY TO THE REPLY. Art does not serve; many purposes are getting by the way. Art can be compared with man, and then it is possible to say that a purpose of art is a man always. When this aspect exists, art remains art. But that one, what has been defined by Bertram Russell as a mass culture, is not art from this point of view.

The Artists' Declaration from the special art-exhibition at Royal Hall of Hotel Eggers at the time of European Conference 2001, June 15 – 17, Gothenburg, Sweden

THE ERA OF A NEW RENAISSANCE IS COMING

Fyodor Dostoyevsky said, "Beauty will save the world". Poet Iosif Brodsky reworded him in his Nobel Lecture. Brodskiy added, "Probably it is impossible to save the world already, but to save the separate man is always possible".

But, the world consists of people. And, each person in the world has awakened from the terrible dream of the twentieth century. The means of Art and Culture, but not the ill stamps of politics and a mass culture can reach happiness and a human dignity. Art is humanism.

The era of a New Renaissance is coming.

--------------------------------------------------------

The twentieth century was a century of a mass culture. That was the modern myth about an average man, who has an average life and needed a mass culture only.

It was possible to meet the average men among the foolish political gamesters with their primitive ideology, which enforced people to live in the totalitarian worlds, and among the ignorant art-dealers as well, which were doing the mass culture war against humanity.

People win in the war of banality against them.

Man doesn't want to be an average man any more.

People don’t need the foolish ideology and the ignorant art-myths.

People need a humane life and the authentic art.

Man doesn't want to be a means any more.

Man is always the purpose.

MAN’S SEARCH FOR MEANING

When ancient Aesopus had a choice between slavery and death, he said, "Please show me the gulf for the freedom people". That was a suicide formally, but due to Aesopus we can understand what Freedom is. Socratic situation was the same - Socrates could avoid a poison by refusing his teaching.

Viktor Frankl in "Man's Search for Meaning" has defined a human essentiality. We do not feel that Aesopus, Socrates, a fortiori Jesus could be wrong in their choice. Meaning is basic to man. Here is a difference between man and nature. But now we have a tendency to be going back to the spiritual emptiness like the monkeys, which only have been trained to count money. Nobody is contented with it. We all are searching for meaning.

Art has important role in the contemporary human search.

PESSIMISM AND VIOLENCE AS A TOTALITARISM OF BANALITY. THE ROLE OF ART

The development of human ideas is a slow process, which could be compared with the long time of human history. But every man need lively to take part in it by his/her own life and destiny - it is a human necessity to be heuristic.

But why are we pessimistic sometimes? If we are not happy - that means we are deceived by some kind of totalitarism. Totalitarian ideas are those ones, which haven’t inner resources for a development. They are old as the world; they are taking new clothes only. They are special nowadays - it could be called a totalitarism of banality. Pessimism and spiritual emptiness are the results of totalitarian banality.

The general human notions as freedom, meaning, love, life, death - which are in the coordination with personal freedom - are at stake. People feel that they have no possibility of human realisation. The modern totalitarism could be understood as the total domination of a mass-culture; banality in the social and individual life. This kind of totalitarism, as all of them, makes people crazy. The different variations of totalitarism in history were connected with the wars on the territories of its location, but an infection of totalitarism has not been diffused over the whole world before. The spiritual vacuum can be filled up by horror, which has already stepped from movies into real life by one of its legs.

The communications on the base of Art and Culture make us more open and happy. The circle of viewers, with whom Art and Culture can engage in the productive intellectual and emotional relationships, can be expanded for all of us.

An authentic human life can be returned back to people by the means of Art and Culture. Beauty will save the world.

THE ARTISTS' STATEMENT

"It is time to secure the rights of artists globally…Some believe artistic creations are no different from conventional goods and services and they deny or ignore the powerful cultural importance of works of the human imagination ".  From AN OPEN LETTER FROM ARTISTS, September 12, 2003  http://www.incd.net/letter/letter.htm

Now is the time to talk about the destiny of Art globally. Andre Malraux said concerning our time: " The 21st century will be spiritual, or it will be nothing". In contemporary society, when spiritual vacuum can be filled up by horror, one can understand the prophecy of Fyodor Dostoyevsky: "Beauty will save the World".

People are tired of politics and business, because a Human Being is not a machine or robot feeding his/her own physical existence only. People must have an alternative. What should be giving us a real feeling of life? On what terms do society and communication function? Art is the ONLY alternative because of its unlimited capacity to investigate deeply an understanding of what a Man should be.

Art appears in communication between artists and the world. If Art could be widely related to People, then much of inspiration would be born. A better understanding of the role of Art could help in the contemporary world.

The existing art market is mostly not responsible for the destiny of Art. Art is considered just another commodity or product. The talented artists, who have devoted their lives to art completely, are sometimes unable to earn a living by their professional work. The lives of many true artists are impossible. Besides the taxes equal to the taxes for traders, they must pay the huge percentage to the local galleries, which are not always able to bring Art to people widely and perfectly.

It is necessary to create an art market where collectors and artists will reach the right balance. That can be accomplished but everyone responding for the destiny of art needs to put out forth some effort.

The independent artists' Society www.geocities.com/i_societyofartists proposes to use the existing resources supporting the non-profit cultural organizations all over the world for the art-shows. The ISA centers in different countries do not sell art; they only organize the art exhibitions. But artists may sell their art at those exhibitions themselves. These way artists make direct contact with collectors and pay taxes only.

Direct contact between artists and collectors is very important. Art is for people always; art is born from a love for people, for the world, for life. And everybody understands that the Art in his or her home is seen every day by his or her children and is a large part of their education. The ISA exhibitions will not only be shops, but public meeting places. And artists will fully demonstrate their talents, when they will be in direct contact with people. Some from art business don't respect, don't know, and don't understand people's needs. But there has always been a demand for inspirited, creative and vital art.

The Era of New Renaissance is coming! The improved art market will dispel the myth that talented artists become famous only after death. Then why, for example, did Picasso or Giorgione have a normal art life? Giorgione fortunately had a market in his country; Picasso had created it by himself all over the world. All contemporary Van Goghs will find brothers among the people.

An artists' life is a straggle without stone in heart. It is a straggle for the rights of Art in people's consciousness. Art is unable to be a server or material. It is also not peculiar to man to be a means. Man is always the purpose.

Each national culture and each religion has a deep inner beauty. Beauty truly unites all people by the best of human heart and soul, by love and joy. Beauty will save the world.

SYMBOL AND MYTH (on example of Ophelia's and Hamlet's love)

We have only allegory, metaphor, symbol, and myth - by what we are able to express something. And now, when humanity is on the sill of reality, we have to remember a symbol, we return to the things, which are mentally and emotionally closed to all of us. That can be for example a light or darkness, happiness or sorrow. We can't make a just definition of symbol and myth, because we are inside of our expression. But maybe Myth is a Life of Divine, and Symbol is how people are able to understand a Life of Divine. For example a story of Ophelia and Hamlet. They had a love, and all, what they where doing, were as a background of them love, and without it them love could be impossible. But Love is Myth, and we, people, unable to know what that is, as Hamlet and Ophelia too. But, they always still know a Love, as each of us too. Each of us has touched it by any way, so each of us is Divine.

Sometimes our lives look like a rush moving to nonentity, and all of us are delicate to each other – each of us knows that Ophelia is dead, and Hamlet’s win is formal only. Love is alive always.
