They developed their product to work on any operating system or device, including popular gaming systems like the Nintendo Wii and Sony PS3 as well as Linux, Mac, and Windows-based PCs.

Rendering Engine:

Opera makes use of the Presto Engine. Presto is currently on release version 2.2. The Presto engine was developed in 2003 after a lot of testing and public beta releases. This engine allows for partial re-rendering of page information based on scripted events or DOM , which is a member of the computers API language ( part of the CPUs1 Level 1 language.) Newer updates have fixed bugs to allow for better JavaScript support.

About the authors:

In 1994, Geir Ivarsoy and Jon S. von Tetzchner developed the Opera Browser while working for Norwegian Telecom Research. Within a year it was available to the public. Since its release, it has been a pioneer in Web browsing and had revolutionized the web browsing experience. They began Opera Software ASA with the vision of "One Web". This vision was to make the World-Wide Web accessible to all individuals regardless of network quality, platform, or device capability by being truly cross-platform. It is this vision that has made Opera the oldest browser company still in business. It has become popular for many of today's emerging tech devices for just this reason (cross platform) and because it is flexible, fast, and more secure than competitors. Ivarsoy was a member of the board for Opera Software ASA until his resignation in 2004. His ties to the company remained however and he was appointed as a member of the Nominations Committee for them in June 2005. He got cancer and passed away March 09, 2006. Tetzchner has many credits to his name. He has been a member of the Forum for Young Global Leaders since 2005, has been named one of BusinessWeek's Stars of Europe in 2004, and in 2009 he was named as one of the top 40 leaders shaping the mobile communications industry by analyst firm Informa, and as one of the top 15 mobile influencers by GigaOM. Tetzchner admits to being a geek and to having a huge interest in gadgets and high-tech devices. His interest in computers started in his early days, especially in user interfaces and accessibility. He holds a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Oslo.
