| Too Much Information | ||||||||||||||||
Newspapers, CNN, MSNBC, C-Span, Radio, Internet. Information is everywhere! But how much information is actually too much to the common people? The rule of thumb on how much is too much information is: does this really affect my day-to-day life and routine? If the answer is no, then the information is too much. Images flashed across the screen of the World Trade Center on fire and crashing down. This image will be embedded in the minds of everyone, no matter what race, nationality and creed. This affected the entire world and peoples lives. The threat of violence in everyones day-to-day life became hauntingly real. People had to change their lifestyles and routine. Everyone became more aware of his or her surroundings. Even though we were all on information overload, it was extremely important to everyone that this information was put out. When President Bush sent troops over to Iraq, it was very important also. It seems that everyone in the U.S. is related to or knows or knows of somebody who has had to go over as part of the military. Watching the day-to-day happenings in the lives of our soldiers through the eyes of embedded news journalists gave everyone not there a chance to see what really goes on. Some people were horrified at the images. While it may seem callous, the people needed to SEE. While most people do not believe that this does NOT affect their day-to-day lives, they are in denial! Some of their hard-earned money, in the form of taxes, goes towards paying the soldiers and other defense spending. Whether or not you agree with the operation, isnt it nice to actually SEE your money? It may just be an image of a soldier during a mission, or a tank rolling across the desert, but it is tangible evidence that you money was used for another purpose besides paying some millionaire to sit in an office on Capital Hill and make decisions about your life! Too much information is when the far-left media tries to discredit WHY the decisions were made. They have tried to sway the public into believing the reasons the decisions were made were for personal gain on the politicians part. Does ANYONE remember a few years ago when Iraq consistently refused to let weapons inspectors do their jobs? Or Iraq making promises to the international community to be more forthcoming and reneging on that promise? Of course not. The media has shifted the attention to President Bush, sitting in a classroom, reading to some young students while the World Trade Center was burning. Or how President Bush and his family have vested interest in the oil community and only sent our troops to Iraq to further his family fortune. This my friends is information that does not affect your daily lives. Does it not stand to reason that we elect people to MAKE decisions for us? And that most of the time these people have information that the general public does not? Who really cares WHY they did it, but we should be concerned with HOW it may affect us. Do you really want to know every bit of information that the government has? Wow, wouldnt that make for some interesting and fun cocktail party and dinner conversation? Did you hear that Saddam wears size 12 shoes? I heard that so and so knows so and so in the White House and they say that Bush wears PJs to bed! Sounds pretty silly, but this is exactly what this society is coming to. Would YOU like some journalist and camera crew following you 24/7, recording everything YOU do and say? Would you like to have EVERY decision youve ever made aired worldwide and under constant scrutiny? In relationships, many people ask how many partners the other has had. When confronted with this, many lie. Women downplay the number and some men play it up. Either way, many times the answer is more than we really want to know. It is up to us, the viewer, the reader, and the listener, to make the decision about information overload. If a problem or comment doesnt affect you personally, then maybe its really not so relevant! And remember, the REAL reason we went to Iraq was NOT to further Bushs wealth or in retaliation for 9-1-1, but was in response to years of weapons inspections being denied and innocent people being slain. If you were to change your story every few days and when confronted about it weasel out with false promises, dont you think that maybe somebody somewhere someday is going to call you on it? If not, you may as well join Martha Stewart in Denialville! |
