One Last Breath

The shutters slap closed
and my nerves race out the door.
My heart jumps into my throat,
and tells me I'm not alone anymore.

I pivot my head
around to see
the unknown undead
that now stands with me.

The bitter paralysis is stronger than I,
but I force my feet to run...
I have to run, or I die.
I stop at the peak
and it grabs me from behind.
I look into him
and see that his eyes are mine.

He press' his lips
hard onto my own,
Sucking every last breath out of me,
and breaking every bone.

He lets me go
and I collapse to the floor.
Not a motion,
not even a thought,
dares to escape from my core.

A violent shudder
shakes my entire frame,
my eyes roll back in my head
and finally I scream for pain.

My back throws to arch,
a last tear drips to the boards.
I exhale one last time...
and I'll never be alone
forever more...
