Star Trek Episode Countdown
Synopsis: Reed gets trapped while trying to defuse a mine attached to Enterprise's hull. Meanwhile Archer gets pressured by the Romulans to leave their space or be destroyed.
Over All:
An interesting and suspenceful episode.
Pros:
- I like the way they introduce the Romulans into Enterprise, it's
very plausible that Enterprise would go exploring a planet that happened to be in an alien empire's space, causing an unfortunate introduction. Enterprise had to have the Romulans show up adventarly it was inavetable. It would be inconsistant with Star Trek not to have the Romulans show up. - I liked the way this episode took place mostly in space, in space suites. It has the whole astrornaught feel to it, that makes it more realistic.
- We learn more about Archer and Reed's characters and the relationship between them grows.
Cons:
- This episode trys very hard to be consistant with the fact
established in TOS's "Balance of Terror", and for the most part they sucseed, but frankly it's an impossible task.  In "Balance of Terror" Spock ays no human, Romulan or ally has seen the other before, and they remain consistant with that. However the also say that there was a war between the two of them, uses atomic weapons and primative radio communications, and Enterprise is already beyond both technoligys. Also in "Balance of Terror" Kirk and crew, make it clear that they have never seen a cloaking device before, and even the Romulan crew talk as if the cloaking device is a new piece of technology, yet here the Romulans already have cloaking devices, and cloaked mines, and Archer and crew already know about cloaking devices from dealing with the Suliban, and they even have technolgy to detect it.
- Reed tells Archer that he doesn't feel it's apporpaite for the crew to socalize with superoir officers, howevce he became good friends with Commander Tucker in
"Shuttlepod One" and  "Two Days and Two Nights" and Commander Tucker is the second officer.
