Title: I Don't Think I've Seen a Needle That Big
Author: Katie
Complications: Hmm, I always seem to send these things immediately, so its only an hour old
End Result: Looks nice, where I want it, but it's got this horrid stud in it. *yick*
Happy with the Result: So far...
Date Done: April 11, 2004(Easter!)
Story: So let's see, just some background...Since I first pierced my left ear, I have now pierced an additional five holes in my ear, although including the one this story is about, I have only kept three. It has been cartilage in my left ear, my third lobe in my right, and now this brand new left cartilage. But that's not important.

My parents haven't noticed any of my new holes, despite the fact that they are steadily increasing. Either that or they have and their just glad that I'm not doing drugs, smoking, or drinking(alcohol and my family just don't mix). So, I decided to do yet another one.

I have scribbled out on pictures of ears just what I want to pierce, and tonight I was originally going to pierce my daith on my right ear, but given that I was working with a huge needle and I am not a professional, that plan didn't work too well. In addition, I'm much more comfortable piercing my left ear, so I decided to pierce my left cartilage again.

So, I cleaned the needle with rubbing alcohol, and donned a rubber glove for my right hand(I'm right handed, so I was going to push the needle through with that hand). In addition, this was the first cartilage piercing I did without ice. Yes, kids, it is possible to slowly pierce your cartilage without ice. I had previously pierced my right lobe without ice, but that was because I was too lazy to go and get it without the parental units taking notice. This time, it was basically impossible, since the parentals were removing everything possible from the kitchen(new countertops coming tomorrow).

So, the basic piercing happened. I put the needle against my cartilage, and shoved. I think I got it halfway through before I chose to pull it out to examine it. By now, thinking "Gosh darn it, I want this hole!" I had decided that I was getting this through all the way. So, I put the needle back in, and shoved. The needle, of course, did not go in all the way, but I pushed harder, and I think that I went through half my cartilage at once. That was a semi-nasty sound.

Eventually, I could feel the point of the needle, not all the way out, but beginning to break through. At this point, I got my stud, which was stupidly not alcoholized, but I had just taken it out of my right 3rd lobe a few days previous, so it should be fine, pulled out the needle, and pushed the stud in as far as it wanted to go, maybe 3/4s of the way. Then, I just shoved some more, getting it to break the skin, then all the way through.

I put the back on the stud, admired just how ugly the stud looked, and proceeded to add some Neosporin, a topical ache reliever, and run my ear under some cold water(don't ask why--it seemed like a good idea). I think it hurt more to ice my ear and pierce it, but make your own decision.
