What? Why? Huh?

Depression & Medication

Introduction

So, why am I telling you about my experiences with self harm? There are a few reasons:

  • So other self injurers know that theyre not alone. I remember the first time I looked up self harm on the internet. (I actually found a site about Borderline Personality Disorder & one of the symptoms of BPD is self harm.) I was so relieved to know that I wasnt crazy or the only one to harm myself.

  • When I used to self harm, I looked at a lot of personal home pages and it was rare to find a site created by someone who no longer self injured. On the occasions that I did find a recovery site, it was encouraging to know that there is hope. Id love to give other self injurers hope that things can get better.

  • Perhaps youre reading this and you dont self harm. Maybe youre doing some research for a project or to help a friend or just came across this site by accident. Hopefully sharing my experiences will give you an insight into the who and why of self harm.

  • And last, but not least, Im writing this for me. Both for the younger, depressed me and for the me of today. I can give the teenage me a voice here & I can look back to see how far Ive come, which is helpful for me today.

Im going to try to make these pages as safe as possible there wont be any detailed descriptions of self harm and definitely no photos or triggering images. But because of the subject matter and the feelings involved, please be sure that youre feeling safe before you continue.

Please be aware that I am NOT a mental health professional. The information & experiences on this website should not be used as a substitute for professional help.
