Chapter Twelve
Day Twelve

Thursday morning found Jim sleeping till the alarm finally went off. He turned it off and thought about going back to sleep, but instead got up and headed to the bathroom for his shower. He noticed the time was 5:45 am. He still had plenty of time, but wanted to get started before he chickened out on going through with the meeting later today. After Jim had showered and dressed he decided to load his laptop and his suitcase back into his van so if he needed to he could leave town in a hurry. After loading his stuff in the van, he drove to the restaurant for breakfast.

When he walked into the restaurant he looked towards his usual booth and saw Donna sitting there with Jennifer. Jim made his way to the booth and sat down next to Donna, she was telling Jennifer of the things they would be discussing at the meeting with the new owner. Jennifer said she was still amazed that the new owner had gone through all the trouble to review the records of each employee. She told Donna that either the new owner was a very good person with a large heart, or he was a very peculiar person and wanted to know who to get rid of before even seeing them. She quickly added that maybe that was what the meeting was going to be, a housecleaning so to speak.  Donna told her she didn’t think it would be, but anything was possible.

Jim agreed with Donna that he thought the meeting wouldn’t be a housecleaning, but might be more of a way for everyone to voice their opinions about things that needed changing and ideas they had to make the factory a better place to work. He then told Jennifer that he figured the new owner was pretty much a smart person for he had told Mrs. Wilcox to let her move into the company apartment and use the company car due to her fire and he even gave her personal time off with pay. Jennifer agreed he must be a very smart man indeed, for she actually thought Mrs. Wilcox would have fired her if he hadn’t intervened. Donna said she figured she would have been fired also except now Mrs. Wilcox wanted to be her friend, even if it was to only find out what the new owner was up to.

Everyone started leaving the restaurant and headed to the factory. As they entered the factory they noticed there were envelopes stuck in with their time cards. Each person took theirs out and read it. Jim did the same so as to not draw any extra attention. Donna opened hers and read it too. She looked at Jim and just smiled as she read it. She knew he had been the one that sent the letter to Mrs. Wilcox and had told her to put them with the time cards.

Jim looked at the other workers and listened to their comments about the meeting. Most seemed happy to attend, but there were a few that seemed afraid it might be a way for them to get fired. Some even stated that if anyone didn’t attend, they would probably be fired a few days later or as soon as new hands could be hired. Jim hoped that kind of talk wouldn’t turn many away from attending. Then he had an idea that might get a few more to attend and since they had about eight minutes before work started he decided to try and set it up. He ran outside after excusing himself and made a dash for his van.

Once at the van he grabbed his cell phone and called Rick at the dealership where he had bought Donna’s minivan. He told Rick his plans and Rick assured him he would take care of it and not let anyone know who was behind it. Jim told him how he wanted everything to happen and Rick said he would handle to those exact instructions. He then ran back to the factory to start work. Before the morning break buzzer rang, there came an announcement over the PA system. Mrs. Wilcox was telling the employees that she had just received a notice from the local dealership that the new owner had bought a brand new minivan to be given away at the meeting this evening as a door prize. Everyone employee entering the meeting would be given a number and then there would be a drawing done to see who would win the new minivan. This brought cheers from the employees and some that had been a little against going started talking of how nice it would be for them to drive their new minivan to work on Friday. Jim had succeeded he thought in getting almost all employees to the meeting.

When the break buzzer rang, Jim motioned for Donna to come to his area in shipping. Once there he told her he wanted to speak to her alone, so he led her into the shipping office. Everyone else had gone to the break room and so they were alone for at least twenty minutes. Jim hugged her and kissed her deeply. He ran his hands gently yet firmly over her back and down to her rear. He squeezed her rear and pulled her close to him, mashing her against his now rigid manhood. He whispered in her ear that he didn’t know how much longer he would be able to make himself wait before giving in to her and making passionate love to her. She was breathing hard also and as she spoke she stuttered from sheer passion, she told him she wasn’t holding back and he could have her anytime he wanted her. This almost drove Jim over the edge.

For a few seconds he thought of undressing her right there and using his tongue to caress every inch of her body, then slowly making passionate love to her till neither of them would have the energy to do it longer. He was slowly caressing her breast through he blouse and she was actually panting for breathe as she was building towards a climax. He then reminded himself how awkward it would look later if the new owner was caught making out with a woman employee in the shipping office. He told her he was sorry for teasing her, but he had lost control of himself and hoped she would understand. Donna looked him in the eye and then before saying anything she leaned in and kissed him very deeply and more passionately then he thought was possible.

When they broke from the kiss they straightened their clothing and their hair and left the shipping office. Both said that they need to go to the restroom as they neared the break room. Donna laughed when they both said the same thing at the same time and Jim just smiled and hurried into the men’s room. When he returned a few minutes later, he saw Donna was just then coming out of the ladies room as well. They kissed briefly as the buzzer to return to work rang and the other workers came out of the break room. The two of them walked hand in hand back to Donna’s area and then kissed quickly as Jim headed back to the shipping area.

Donna though of how much she needed to be loved by a gentle man such as Jim and how long it had been since she had even been with any man at all. She hoped maybe Jim would let his ways go and decide to give in to her soon, for she didn’t know how long she could hold out before simply ripping his clothes off and actually raping him. She knew she didn’t look all that great and was still amazed that Jim would want her as bad as he showed her he did. She stood only 5 foot and 4 inches and weighed close to 132 pounds. She was very well endowed in the breast area and her rear had a nice padding to it, she wasn’t fat just a little plumper then she would like to have been. She thought of Jennifer and how she looked, she was about 5 foot 6 inches tall and weighed probably only about 110 pounds. Jennifer also was well endowed in the breast area but her rear was trim and pert, and her clothes always fit like a glove. Donna’s clothes either looked like she was poured into them or hung baggy in certain areas.

Why in the world Jim would pick her over Jennifer or the other younger better looking women in the factory, was a mystery to her, but she was glad he had. She let thoughts of Jim and her making passionate love run through her mind and was almost too deep into her thoughts to hear PA system again just before lunch. She finally brought herself back to reality as she heard Mrs. Wilcox announce that everyone that planned to attend the meeting this evening could leave early so as to have enough time to get ready. This way she stated they could get their spouses and children ready in plenty of time so as not to be late.

Mrs. Wilcox said the factory would close one hour early today. So everyone could leave at 3 o’clock instead of 4 o’clock as usual. She then stated for everyone not to clock out and she would clock them out at 4 o’clock so they would get an extra hour pay this week. She then told everyone to enjoy themselves and then the PA system fell silent. Jim thought of how long she had to fight with herself before she decided to offer them the hour off early with pay. He knew it was once again her way of trying to keep her job. In a way he figured she already knew she would be leaving when the new owner took over, and she wanted to make sure she left with good actions so she would get her full pension from the factory.

When the lunch buzzer rang, Jim caught up with Donna before she reached the time clock and asked if she wanted to ride with him to lunch. She told him yes and silently thought of how nice it was just to be near him. They headed out to the parking lot and after getting into Jim’s van they drove to the restaurant. Just before they got out Jim handed Donna some papers, and asked her to read over them while eating lunch. He explained they were his introduction speech for tonight and asked if she thought maybe Jennifer would do the honors of reading them aloud to all at the meeting. Donna said she probably would and as they sat down at their regular booth she started reading. When the waitress came, she just said the usual and went back to reading.

Donna had read the introduction completely through before saying anything at all. When she finished she turned to Jim and said if this didn’t do it, nothing ever would. She told him it was one of the best introductions she had ever heard and asked how he was going to be at the meting and still be able to enter after the introduction was read. He told her he was planning on slipping out after the introduction started and come in the side door so he would be standing behind the curtain in which Jennifer would be in front of making his introduction. She thought it was a grand idea and kissed him, then began to eat her lunch. As she was about half way through her lunch Jennifer walked in and came over to their booth.

She told Donna she had taken care of all the things she had requested for this evening and wanted to know if there was anything else she needed done. Donna smiled and asked her how she would like to be the one that introduces the new owner. Jennifer almost fainted, and told her it would truly be an honor for her to do it. Donna showed her the papers and told her she could read them tonight just as they were written by the new owner himself. Donna also told her there was some stuff in them she couldn’t mention until the meeting and she would hear it as the other employees would.

At five minutes before three o’clock Mrs. Wilcox made an announcement that every should start shutting down and that they had 5 minutes till quitting time. She then once again told them to enjoy themselves at the meeting and remember she would take care of their time cards for them. Then she surprised everyone by telling them goodbye and that she had enjoyed the many years she had been here at the factory. Then the PA went silent, everyone looked at each other knowing n their own minds she would be leaving, and actually thinking they may miss her a little. After all she had been there longer then anyone else in the factory.

When the workers left the factory, Donna went to her van and Jim to his. Jim headed to his motel room for a shower and change of clothes so he would be ready for the meeting. Donna went to her house to also get ready and she called Jennifer to see if she was also going to be ready. Jennifer asked Donna if it would be ok for her to have Donna come by and pick her up on her way to the meting, she said she felt funny about driving the company car to it with so many being there someone might bump into it or something. Donna told her it would be ok and she would pick her up at 5 so they would have enough time to get everything setup.

Donna and Jennifer arrived at the restaurant just after 5 pm and they started setting up the podium and the microphone and all in the large dining room. There were curtains about 3 feet out from one wall that were used to permit people to entrance through in pageants and such. That is where Jim would be making his entrance from. They found two boxes of large white envelopes with the labels on them saying they contained “Meeting Pamphlets”, and a note attached to the boxes saying they were to be passed out after the new owner made his introduction. Donna wondered when Jim would come in, she wanted to ask him some questions before the meeting.

Jim left his motel room and arrived at the restaurant at 5 minutes till 6. He did this so he would hopefully get to stand at the back of the dining room or sit at the back of it. It worked just that way, there at a table just inside the door of the dining room sat Donna’s two kids. He saw Jennifer and Donna up near the podium and as his watched chimed to let him know it was now 6 o’clock, Donna spoke into the mic. She told everyone she wanted to thank them for coming on behalf of the new owner and that she would now turn the mic over to Jennifer.

Hello everyone, I am glad to see that so many could make it. For those of you that don’t know me, I am Jennifer Barker and I would like to introduce you to James Albert Davies, the new owner of our factory. I have been asked to read you a letter from Mr. Davies before he makes his entrance, so without any interruptions I will begin now.

To my employees, I would like to say that after reviewing each and every one of my employees in their work place and seeing just how they act towards each other, I can say I am a very proud to be the owner and employer of everyone here. I have asked others to help me by getting some suggestions from you as to what would make the factory better and the work conditions better. I have reviewed these as well and will discuss them after we meet. Just to put everyone’s mind at ease, their will be no discharges of employees except in management unless someone changes the way they have been working. Of course after meeting me you may all decide to fire me though.

I would like to take this time to thank several for helping out with my evaluations and other tasks that have come up recently. I would like to especially thank the one reading this, Jennifer Barker, your plant supervisor effective immediately and your knew assistant plant supervisor, Donna Clifton. I would also like to announce that there will be a retirement party for Janet Wilcox here at this restaurant on Sunday afternoon at 2 pm. I am hoping all of you will put past differences aside and attend this joyous occasion. Besides it may be the last time you get to see her. Anyone wishing to apply for positions opened in by these changes will be able to do so on Monday. No applications will be accepted from outside the factory until all positions are filled by employees wishing to change their jobs.

Most of you may not realize it, but you are very lucky to have already met me at one time or another. I am a different kind of person then most would think a factory owner or a billionaire to be. I like to be thought of as a regular person that is kind hearted and helping and one that will only ask others to do what I myself have done or can do. I do not like to make rash decisions concerning anything in life because life is a long time to live with the consequences. I have done some things in my life I am not very proud of, but done them for the betterment of others as well as myself.

I am going to explain something to you about myself and believe you will agree with my actions. When I inherited your factory, I was strongly advised to sell it immediately by the attorneys that handled the transaction. I just couldn’t bring myself to sell it without finding how what type of people were relying on it for income, and also how good of people in general the employees were. I decided to check into it personally, however most people when they meet the boss or owner are always on their best behavior. I know I always was back when I had to work long hours to make ends meet. So I decided to do something that some might think was a little strange or misleading. I came to your factory undercover some time back and have not only been watching the way things were done, but also interacting with every one of you. Yes I guess you could say I was a spy but to insure the best work conditions for my employees and to be able to make justified trustworthy decisions about the factory, I needed to get my information first hand and without the all famous brown nosing factor being present.

I apologize to you if you feel I treated you wrong by doing this and I can only hope you will forgive me as we – yes we – continue to build a better workplace at our – yes our – factory. I am using the terms we and our, because I have decided to sell the factory and also keep it. By this I mean I am going to sell up to 40 % of the stock in it to you the employees, and you will have a say in matters as well as reap part of the profits from it every year also. I am not much on unions, but I do believe in profit sharing and letting the employees have a voice in actions that concern them, and anything done at the factory concerns you, the workers. There will be some papers passed out after we meet that explains this in further detail. That is all I have to say for now. Thank you.

Now without further a due, I hope you all will join me in welcoming our new owner James Albert Davies a.k.a. Jim Davis. As Jennifer made the last statement everyone stood and applauded as Jim walked from behind the curtain. Donna was standing to one side of the podium and she was smiling as big as she could and was clapping louder then anyone else. Jennifer was in tears as she realized Jim was the owner and also the one that had helped her so much already and now had just made her the plant supervisor. Jim walked up and gave Jennifer a polite hug and a gentle polite kiss on the cheek. Then he turned to Donna and welcomed her with open arms. As she stood at his side, he tapped the mic a couple of times to get everyone’s attention and then proceeded to speak into it. He told them that if there was anyone there that felt he deceived them in an unforgiving way, to please speak up now, for he wanted to make sure he could still count them all as friends before continuing. No one responded. Jim looked around the room and noticed that every eye there was on him.

He spoke again telling them of how much he had wanted to let them all know a week ago who he was, but decided it wasn’t time yet.  He told them he had seen how they all worked together to help each other no matter what they were up against, and he hoped this would continue and he wanted very much to remain a part of it also. He said that no matter what happened to any one of them, he was only a phone call away and they would have his private cell number in the packets that Donna and Jennifer were handing out now. There should never be a time in a factory workers life when they are afraid or ashamed to go to work at the factory, he told them, and I want to make sure that time never has a chance to come to our factory. With decisions that are voted on and discussed by all the workers, instead of being made by one person, I truly think the factory can become an even more enjoyable workplace and more productive at the same time.

As the meeting went on, Jim explained to the workers of what their benefits would be with the profit sharing and stock holding options. He also asked several times for those that had written ideas to please join him at the podium. Each time he would have them read their idea to the rest of the workers and then he asked for a show of hands vote on each idea. By the time the business had been taken care of and they were all sitting down to their meal, everyone was happy with what had taken place. Jim joined Donna and her two kids and Jennifer and her babysitter and son at the main table. He made sure that before beginning his meal that he told everyone to enjoy the meal and if they left hungry it was their own fault. A lot of the workers commented on his good sense of humor and most shook his hand as they came by the table on their way to the buffet bars.

After the meal, Jim stood and asked Chrissy if she would reach into the bucket he was holding above her and pull out one number. She did and then he asked Jennifer to announce the number so the winner of the new minivan could come forward. Jennifer looked at the number and walked to the podium so she could use the mic to announce it. She called out the number 32 and everyone looked at their numbers and then looked around to see who had it. Jennifer called out the number again and then looked at Jim and Donna with a questioning expression. About that time an older like man stood up and said he thought he had the number but wasn’t sure.

Jim saw the man was, Bill Randalls. He was one of lift drivers from receiving. Jim walked over to him and asked to see his number, it was 32. Jim told him congratulations and walked with him to the podium to get the title and keys to the new minivan. Bill whispered to Jim as they asked him to sign the title that he couldn’t read or write. Jim spoke up and told him so everyone could hear it that he need not worry about forgetting his glasses that he would help him sign the title. Everyone cheered for Bill getting the van. After the Bill had the title and the keys, he thanked Jim and that is when Jim told him he would speak to him later about his secret. Jim then told them that he figured it might be time for everyone to head home and get some rest for if he remembered correctly they all had to work the next morning. Jim then made his way to the door and he shook everyone’s hand as they left. Jim saw Donna and Jennifer were the last ones to leave. They both thanked him fro all he had done and Donna hugged and kissed him and asked if he was coming by or going straight to the motel. He apologized for being so tired and said he was going to the motel. They left the restaurant heading in their separate directions.

When he arrived at his motel room, Jim felt very good about the meeting and decided all would be ok. He showered and dressed for bed, and then he turned out his light and closed his eyes to go to sleep. He was really tired and need the sleep which came to him quickly.
