Chapter Eleven
Day Eleven

Jim woke the next morning with thought running through his head about what the workers would think of him when they found how who he really was. As he showered and got ready for work he tried to think of what he could say to them that would make them understand why he had deceived them by not telling them who he was.

When he arrived at the restaurant for breakfast, Donna was already there and she motioned for him to sit with her. She handed him a paper that had about twenty items on it and the person’s name that had submitted it. Jim read over it as he drank his coffee and waited on his breakfast to be served.

The first one was that there should be a plant manager in the office at all times, unless they were out to lunch and they should have an assistant plant manager to help out when needed. Jim thought this was a legitimate and valuable change that the factory could use. The second one was that they needed more training time on new machine setups as well as more trained mechanics and setup people to set the machinery up and to keep it running. This was also a good change, Jim thought.

As he started eating the breakfast that had been served him, he read some more of the items. The third one didn’t sound very good, but he thought it could be considered anyways. It was a request that the workers be allowed to have family days with pay, this way if they needed a day off to attend school with their child or to take them to a doctor or such, they would get the day off with pay. The more Jim thought of it, the less the idea of “with pay” appealed to him. He could see giving them the day off for such things, however paying them on these occasions may make more of the workers hunt for such things to take off for.

The fourth item was already his number one item, to remove Mrs. Wilcox from the factory all together. Jim smiled as he read it a second time. Donna seen him smiling and told him he must be on number four as she smiled too when she read it. Jim nodded his head and continued to read number five. The workers should have a say in some of the matters that pertain mainly to them, such as pay increases, overtime and benefits. That sounded a lot like Jim’s way of thinking also.

The next few items were about wanting more money and reducing hours per week worked. Jim made a mental note as to who had submitted these, but didn’t dwindle on them very long. He skimmed over the rest and told Donna she had done real good and asked if this was all she had so far. Donna told him this was all she had, but two other women had more then she did already. She told him she would get their lists at lunch and give them to him. He told her ok and asked if anyone had asked why she was doing it. She told him a few had and she told them she was planning on giving them to the new owner when he arrived and that she also wanted to have a meeting Thursday evening so everyone could voice their opinions and maybe even vote someone as spokesperson of the workers to carry the items to the new owner.

They left the restaurant a few minutes after that and as Jim drove to the factory he was still thinking of how to explain his actions to the workers. Then it hit him, be totally honest with them, explain that he had wanted to see the factory in action as it was everyday, not as it was when everyone new it was being evaluated. Yes he thought, honesty would be the best route to take.

When he arrived at the factory and had clocked in, he headed to the shipping department instead of joining the others in the break room as he usually did. He wanted to think about a few other things and also wanted to make a phone call before anyone else got to shipping. He used the phone in the office to call the florist and he ordered a dozen red roses to be delivered to Donna at the factory just before lunch time, he also asked if the could get a box of chocolates to go with it. The florist assured him everything would be taken care of. Jim hung up the phone as the buzzer rang to start work. He came out of the shipping office as Donna was looking around from her machine. He smiled and nodded at her, she returned the nod and smile.

Jim tried to stay busy and yet he still had several thought about the items on Donna’s list come into his mind. He was even thinking of her a lot also. He had to keep reminding himself that he couldn’t do the kind of things that popped into his head with Donna as he really didn’t know her that well and they weren’t married yet. He wondered if he was too hard on himself by continuing to think they had to be married before they could have sex. Maybe he should just let what ever happened happen, or at least let it lead him a little more then he had in the past.

If he hadn’t kept his control the past few times they had kissed he would probably have ripped Donna’s clothes off and ravished her right there on the spot. No he had to control himself and even go home feeling bad for not letting her go any further with her advances towards him either. He started thinking of what her bare skin would feel like to his hands, and how she looked totally naked. Before he realized it he the break time buzzer rang and he had to come back to reality.

As he passed Donna’s area on the way to break she stepped next to him and took his hand in hers. She asked him if everything was ok as his hands were very sweaty and he looked flushed a little. He assured her everything was ok, and told her he had just been thinking of some of the items on her list a little and got side tracked into thinking of her a lot. He smiled and looked her dead in the eyes when he said it too. She blushed and just giggled like a school girl and then told him he was almost embarrassing her.

They both laughed a little as they got a soft drink from the machine and sat down next to each other at a table. The other workers were sort of used to seeing them together and hardly noticed that both were blushing as they sat down.

Jim asked Donna if she was getting anymore items on her list and she told him yes it was almost full. He said that was great and he hoped to have a good turn out Thursday evening. He then excused himself and told Donna that he would see her at lunch as he needed to make a call. He left and almost ran to his van in the parking lot.

Once inside his van he hooked his cell phone to his laptop and proceeded to send a fax to the factory office. He sent it to the attention of Mrs. Wilcox. He had typed the fax into his computer earlier and as soon as it was sent he reread it to make sure it was the way he had intended it to be. He then returned to the factory and had just made it to the shipping department when the end of break buzzer rang.

He went straight to work and only looked towards Donna when he heard her being paged to the front office about 11 o’clock. He smiled at her and mouthed out what was happening, she only shrugged her shoulders then turned and headed to the front office.

Once she got to Mrs. Wilcox’s office she knocked and was told to come in. Mrs. Wilcox told her first of all she had received a delivery and pointed to a small table just to the left of the door. There were a dozen red roses in a really nice vase and a one pound box of assorted chocolates. Donna took the card opened it and read it. She smiled as she read “Your Secret Admirer”. She immediately thought they were from Jim.

Mrs. Wilcox then asked her to have a seat as she had something important to discuss with her. Donna sat down as Mrs. Wilcox handed her a couple of papers, explaining she had received this fax just after break. She told Donna that she had made a copy so they could both look over it together. Mrs. Wilcox read the fax aloud to Donna. From James Albert Davies, Owner. I will be arriving late Thursday afternoon and wish to introduce myself to the general workers employed by me before I enter the factory or meet with any of my management personnel. I have reviewed several employee records and come to the conclusion that the person I would like to have handle the meeting between the employees and myself to be Donna Clifton. I feel she is a very level headed employee and can do justice to putting together a meeting of this type with such short notice. Please inform Ms. Clifton that I will meet them at the restaurant at 6 PM as I have already called and set up a dinner for everyone that can make it to the meeting. Also make sure she understands this meeting is not mandatory for employees to attend, but I feel it would be well worthwhile for all to do so. If there is anything that Ms. Clifton needs in any way, please assure her she has your full cooperation and also may have as much as $500 for expenses from our petty cash department. The restaurant will also be sending a bill for the food and services that will be expected to be paid promptly as they were kind enough to handle the meeting on short notice. Please permit Ms. Clifton to announce on the factory PA system the meeting place and time, and also to put up notices of it in the break room. I will be at the factory on Friday at 7 o’clock AM promptly. Thank you, James Albert Davies.

Donna almost let a laugh escape her as she looked at Mrs. Wilcox’s face as she read the fax. She was delighted that Jim had taken care of most of the details of the meeting, leaving her to do more important things that needed to be done. She was also glad he had specified that no management personnel were to be at the meeting, this meant Mrs. Wilcox would not be there. That should help the employees to enjoy the meeting even more.

Mrs. Wilcox told Donna that she would give her any money and assistance she need if she would just let her know. Donna thanked her and told her she better get back to work as it was almost lunch time. She grabbed the vase of roses and the candy as she headed out of the office and back to her work area. She was smiling really big as everyone hollered and asked who the flowers were from. She replied to all that they were from a secret admirer. She saw Jim looking her way as she got to her area, and she mouthed “thank you” to him. He just nodded and smiled back at her.

It was only about 5 minutes after Donna got to her area when the lunch buzzer rang. Donna waited till Jim came by her area then she took her roses and candy and joined him in heading to the parking lot to go to lunch. When they got to his van she asked if they had time to stop by her house and leave the candy and roses. He assured her that would be no problem at all. He headed to her house and was pulling into her drive in just a few minutes. He got out to help her get the stuff in the house so she wouldn’t have to hold it and unlock the door at the same time.

Once inside she set the flowers and candy on a table in the living room, then turned to Jim and gave him a tight hug and kissed him so passionately that he thought he would give in to his urges. When the kiss ended about 3 minutes later she asked him if he wanted to just eat a sandwich here so they wouldn’t have to rush as much before getting back to the factory. He told her that was ok with him and they went to the kitchen. As Donna got the luncheon meat and cheese from the refrigerator, Jim stood behind her. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her neck then nibbled on her ear lobes. His hands slowly and gently squeezed her waist.

Donna turned around with her hands full and Jim released her long enough for her to set the stuff on the counter. Then he hugged her again as she turned to face him. This time he was the one who started the kiss and while he was kissing her his hands roamed over her back and down over her rear. He gently cupped her rear in his hands and squeezed it. She was already running her hands over his back as well. Then she moved her hands to his chest as she stepped back and still leaned into the kiss. Her hands rubbed his chest gently but firmly, letting him know how much passion she had for him. Donna was hoping things would go further then they had in the past week, but Jim seemed to not respond very much. He ended the kiss and as he stepped back a little he told her he was sorry for he shouldn’t have touched her in such an arousing manner. Donna said that it was ok for she wanted him to do that and more. He told her he wanted to also but just couldn’t bring himself to do it yet.

They made their sandwiches and as they ate, Donna told Jim of the fax she was given by Mrs. Wilcox. She told him she almost laughed when Mrs. Wilcox read her the fax and then offered her assistance in any way she could help. Donna asked if he thought she would have much chance in getting all the workers to attend the meeting, and Jim told her he felt if anyone could it, she would be the one. He then told her that to remember she could always ask others to help her if she needed to. She told him she knew that and she had already thought of asking Jennifer to help her since she was off from work for a while. Jim told her that sounded like a very good idea to him.

They finished their lunch and drove back to the factory. As they walked into the factory, they were met by Mrs. Wilcox and Jennifer. Jennifer said she had come by to help Mrs. Wilcox on filling out a contract with a new supplier. She said hi to them both and Donna asked if she might have a word in private with her. Jennifer and Donna then headed towards the ladies restroom to talk and Jim headed for the shipping department. Mrs. Wilcox turned and headed back towards her office.

Jim went to the shipping department office and had just sat down while going over a few papers for the next loads to stage out, when the buzzer rang to go back to work. He grabbed the papers and headed out to do his job. He glanced over to Donna’s area and seen her coming back to her job, she smiled and mouth out the words “Jennifer is helping me”. Jim nodded his head and gave the hand signal for “OK” then went back to his work.  It wasn’t long before he found his thoughts drifting back to Donna and him kissing at lunch and what he had wanted to do with her. He kept trying to suppress the thoughts, but they kept coming back.

Jim heard the buzzer for afternoon break and decided he would just stay in the shipping department as he needed to do some thinking. He went to Donna and told her he wasn’t going to the break room and why. She told him that was ok and then asked if he wanted her to stay behind with him. He said no that when he was thinking he was very boring to be around and she needed to work on the meeting stuff anyways. He watched her head for the break room and then he returned to the shipping office.

Thoughts of Donna were racing through his mind at top speed. He was trying to sort his true feelings out for her and also trying to figure out if his ways of courting and all were likely to hinder his chances of actually having Donna as his wife. Yes it was true, he wanted more then anything to marry her and become a father to her two children. WOW! He actually was looking forward to having a ready made family. Most men would run from something like this, he thought. Maybe I need to go have a psychiatrist examine me, no it would be a waste of time and money, he finally concluded. Love will make you do things you never thought possible, this thought made him realize how much knowledge he had learnt over the years.

When the buzzer rang again he found himself standing by Donna’s area waiting on her. When she came up to him he stepped close and told her he may not be able to see her this evening as he had some very important matters to take care and that if she needed him she could call his cell phone. She told him she should be ok and that she would only call if she needed him.

He went back to shipping and worked as if he was a robot for his mind was still thinking of Donna and the things he wanted to have with her as his wife. He finally heard the quitting time buzzer and almost ran to the time clock and then to the parking lot. He hadn’t even waited to say bye to Donna or to kiss her before he left the factory. He hurried to his van and left the lot at the quickest safest speed he could. He headed to the motel to his room.

Once at his motel room he took out his laptop and hooked it to his cell phone again. He then typed a new fax to Mrs. Wilcox instructing her to print up a paper telling of the meeting with the new owner and to make enough copies so she could attach one to each worker’s time card. He wrote the letter to read, “You are invited to meet the new owner of the factory, Mr. James Albert Davies, at the restaurant this evening at 6PM, everyone is asked to come for it concerns all workers of the factory, but attending is not mandatory. There will be NO management personnel at the meeting. It will be the owner and the workers only. Everyone attending will have a chance to speak freely and voice any and all concerns they have about the factory and related items. Anyone unable to attend please contact Donna Clifton or Jennifer Barker so they may know about how many to expect as there will be a free dinner for all attending. Spouses and children may accompany the workers as well and will also enjoy a free dinner of their choice at the factory’s expense. This will be a casual dress meeting and normal work clothes will be accepted. Thank you, James Albert Davies”. Jim read it again before faxing it off to Mrs. Wilcox. He felt good about the fax and the upcoming meeting.

He took a shower and decided to skip supper and just get some well deserved rest. He lay on the bed and watched TV for about an hour and a half. He then turned the TV off and turned out the light and went to sleep.
