All of creation is based on the seed principal. "God said, 'Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth'; and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yelds seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind." (Genesis 1:11-12 NKJV).
God made provision for His creation to continue by the principal of "whose seed is in itself." He told the man He created to "be fruitful and multiply." (Genesis 1:28 NKJV) by the same seed principal.
The same is true in the spiritual realm. "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked for what a man sows, that he will also reap." (Galatians 6:7 NKJV). Paul continued teaching this principal by saying, "For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life." (Galatians 6:8 NKJV). We can't sow in Maine and reap in California. We reap where we have sown. We can't sow in the flesh and reap in the Spirit; but the good news is that when we sow in the Spirit, the flesh will benefit from it. We will have blessings that we can't contain when we make the right choice abut sowing.
The purpose of seeds is propagation. God wants us to grow, mature and bear fruit, which will produce seed. Jesus said to His disciples, "...I chose and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain..." (John 15:16 NKJV). It was necessary that their fruit not abort but "remain" to maturity so it would be filled with ripened seed, and that seed would be sown and result in the perpetual spreading of the gospel. An unending cycle.
We must not forget that included in that cycle are dormant seasons. If we forget that, we will become discouraged when we are not showing visible signs of growth during the dormant season. Just because we don't see growth during the "winter," doesn't mean that the seed is dead. Quick the contrary; it is resting, preparing for the next growing season, gaining strength. We have to work with God's seasonal timetable. It's called trust. He knows exactly when our "sprouting, growing season" is ready to begin. When we consider the resources of God, we know that anything we sow in His Kingdom--time, finances, whatever seed we have--is a safe investment with one- hundred-fold return. The only caution we have to take is to examine our seed motive (Is it "unto the Lord"?), and then fill our portfolio with Kingdom Stock. It's safe; it's sure.
May we never be guilty of eating our seed lest we destroy the next season's crop. May we bear much fruit; may it remain and reach maturity and produce more "after our kind." Let us be fruitful. We can't reap a harvest if we only sow good intentions. |
