Marriage of the Virgin
Stated in the Golden Legend (late 13c)
Maria was brought up in a temple. She chose Joseph among the other suitors when a branch he held bloomed flower. The seven maiden who lived with Maria in the temple witnessed the episode.
In the painting, the seven maidens are shown at the back of Maria. At the back of Joseph, the suitors are standing with branches in their hands. The background is the temple where Maria lived.




His style developed acquiring technique of the great masters.
