Italian Renaissance Paintings

"Gothic artists didn't know that they were Gothic, or even medieval, but the Renaissance artist was well aware that he was different. No previous movement in Western art had been so self-conscious."
<A World History of Art>

Dear Art Lovers,

Welcome to my home page.

This page of Italian Renaissance paintings is for your enjoyment. I have selected some of my favorite paintings and have included source information about them. The fact that many of the paintings have a religious theme is unintentional.

Each page has thumb nail images which link to full size ones, and some parts of the images are linked to their explanation. Some of artist names are linked to their biographies.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to Mark Harder, an editor of Art Christusrex and Web Gallery of Art to let me use their excellent images of the paintings. The image of three angels at the top of the each page is from Mark Harder's Archive.
