Before you notice the drop off in enthusiasm during the next few pages, let me explain. The remainder of this ride is being done on another computer. Mine blew up. Gone, everything. These pictures were uploaded yesterday prior to its demise. My ride report construction tools are gone. The pictures of the second part of the ride out to Fort Adams are gone. I was amazed at how good they were and what neat and beautiful places they reflected. Most of the past ride pictures are gone, also. That doesn't bother me because they have been posted. The loss of the Fort Adams pictures is a downer but a temporary one. I'll go back more focused and it will be better. Until then, on with this section.
From Old 42 I rode south on Oral Church, a name that interest me. I crossed US 98, crossing Black Creek and....
Old 24
I hit Old 24.
There was not much old or interesting found on this section. I can usually find something to "go on" about, but this is a tough one. OK..... Hey, do you see that snake by the fence?
I got gas in Oloh. That was about it. I rode out on Oloh Road and turned onto Old Salt since it had "Old" in its name. I was hanging with the adopted criteria.
Old Salt didn't offer much in POI's, either, but it, like all the other roads was great riding. Maybe I was riding too "great" and passed up a bunch of stuff. After 45mph, POI's get blurry. When I start getting excited about "the road" I never know when to take a picture of it cuz, whenever I do, it's not a good picture that really conveys the qualities which I see in the road. So, now you know why this site features still stuff. Roads are hard to photo when you are chasing them. Above and below is what I found at the stop sign at the corner of Old Salt and Ms.44. It is a real Flea Market. Next time, I'll stop. Yea, right.
Along there, at least the picture numbers reflect that, I shot this field.
The "yellow" is wild flowers.
The "Historic Advance Church" sign caught my eye. Looking at the picture, "Doc Gore" makes me laugh on a couple of levels. The obvious is the imagined picture of a blood and guts covered doctor. The other reflection I'll leave to you in the spirit of political harmony.
Not exactly the immense Improve Baptist Church. (scene later) On this site, size doesn't matter.
Someone in the church has connections with the monument company. I looked at it closely using the now non-existant large copy of the picture. There were some adjustments which were made after the first cutting. Notice above "John", "Rev" has been added. Then there is a cement blob that has been placed before William. Was he defrocked? (sp?) You can't slight attempting to keep a marble sign up to date. Maybe another medium would have made a better scribing surface choice?
Every once in a while I throw in a free ad.
Just prior to entering Marion County I stopped and took a picture of the "Enter Marion County" sign. But, you looked at the picture first and already put that all together. Redundancy again. Now, it's more than just a sign. It's a clue. I've got an internet buddy, Marion, who I sent this picture to as a joke. He wrote back that it would make Uncle Francis happy. I wrote Ray Fagan and asked him to enterpret Marion's statement. He replied that Marion was referring to the Swamp Fox, Francis Marion. He said that indeed Marion County had been named for the Swamp Fox. Does that entice you to know more? Sure it does CLICK HERE Thanks Ray and Marion, two of my 5 or 6 valued staffers.
