about the founders
The founders of Seeds of Thought are Tawona and Ernest Sithole and Tarneem Al Mousawi Poet, Musican and Artist respectively. The brothers (Tawona and Ernest) hailing from Zimbabwe, Africa, are inspired by the need to share positive aspects of their homeland, with other people in Glasgow, and to increase awareness on African prespectives and arts. The 3rd founder, Tarneem, from Bahrain, Middle East, is the creative arts designer of the group. Designing everything from the Seeds Of Thought logo; designing and building this website to all the Seeds Of Thought event flyers and book covers. Most recently organizing and contributing to the 'Art of Poetry' Exhibition April 2008 - April 2009, to reflect the poetic nature of art and allow members the chance to express themselves in another fashion.
urban poetry
The style is social commentary (contemplative, witty and sometimes humorous) trying to tell a story which is not often told. Not being aware of many other poets with this style in Glasgow, we hope to enrich Glasgow's poetry scene by performing at open mic events in Glasgow and beyond, as well as organising 'Seeds of Thought' poetry events. We are also producing homemade poetry books and distributing them around the city, including establishments such as the Mitchell Library, Centre of Contemporary Arts (CCA) in Glasgow and the Forest Cafe Library in Edinburgh.
other forms of art
Music is part of life for us (Ernest and Tawona). We play Mbira, a traditional Zimbabwean instrument. This is not simply a musical instrument as much as it is an integral part of the cultural lifestyle of Zimbabwe. Naturally, players of Mbira hold it in its appropriate respect. Although it has this significance, Mbira is also a fun instrument used in times of celebration, so we enjoy sharing this celebratory experience with people of other backgrounds.
